I have always wanted to work in the medical field since I was a child. Around four, I told my pediatrician during a well- check visit that I wanted to grow up and be just like her. My love of infants and children strongly influenced my career choice because I want to have the ability to help sick children who do not have the ability to help themselves. I have considered many options to enter the healthcare field from nurse, to doctor, and finally came to the conclusion that what I truly wanted out of my future resided in a career as a Physician Assistant. Becoming a PA is not something that I have considered lightly. I did not decide I wanted to become a PA for the convenience factors of tuition, family, or the amount of schooling. ...ural community such as my own or elsewhere. I can see the lack of healthcare available to my town and community, and I would love to be able to give back to the place where I grew up and to the people who encouraged and helped me along the way. The support from my teachers, family and friends has been a major factor in my ability to succeed. I love the aspect of rural medicine in my town or elsewhere because it allows the provider to get to know the patients as more than just the symptoms that are sitting on the exam table. The providers get to know the patients, and many times even the families of patients when they practice in small towns. Sometimes this can even be beneficial because they have more background into what can be affecting the patient. Becoming a provider in an area where healthcare is needed and in small towns such as my own is my ultimate end goal.
