My Call to Become a Nurse

I was a rebel for many years of my life I refused to hear the call of nature, the call to be a nurse. Originally I was born in Colombia, I am the oldest of four, and my mother worked as Microbiologist at the local children’s hospital. As a teenager I volunteered to care and entertain the little children in the Cancer unit, and I was told by my mother and nurses in that unit that I was called to be a nurse and that was my true call; gently I responded with a smile while thinking in my mind they were crazy. When it was time to start college I decided to go for Geology because it was fun, but, I didn’t graduate because I moved to the United States while I was doing my graduation project. From there, I went on to study Chemical Technology and finally I realized it was always meant for me to be a Nurse when I had to care for my second child when she got ill as a baby. In my current role as an Emergency Room nurse the main focus is to prioritize, rapidly assess, and treat patients of all ages that arrived to the Emergency Room with a variety of conditions from a simple rash to heart ...
