My cousin was treated as a cruel person in my big family’s thinking due to his immoral behavior. My grandfather educated his parents and him for an hour because he called and reacted with older cousin as impolite. In Vietnamese culture, the vocative is very significant. It is highly appreciated and respected in a community. These social values are conducted from generation to generation. Parents always have to teach their children how to behave with others when they were little kids because society would appreciate our family education by their action. Although a modern life has changed our life style a lot compared with the old days, the discipline of each family is still indispensable. The vocative in Vietnam is very diverse compared with English. In English, we just use common words such as you for to talk with everyone, but in Vietnamese, we will call another differently when we communicate. We have many options to call other. Vietnamese people are very strict in our naming …show more content…
If I talk with strangers, I will try to guess how old they are to behave in the right way with them. Many times I was wrong by guessing people ages, but as needed, I have to respect opponent people. For example, I was calling my old classmate as a young girl for a year until I knew her age. I deceived by her appearances and personality. She was short and acted like a teenager. Also, her face was too young to think that she was 2 years older than me. Hence, when she knew my reasons, she did not get mad at me. Moreover, if an employee wants to express her respect for me, she will call me as an older person. However, I cannot answer and communicate with her like she is younger than me. I have to react the same way she does to me because that is a rule in Vietnam culture. If I act like she is younger, she will see me as an impolite person. Respecting people no matter what how old you are
The term “culture” elicits strong feelings within the Vietnamese community. The adults and elders would tell young people culture is a way of being that involves talking, acting, and following traditions. For second-generation Vietnamese adolescents, culture becomes an everyday battleground. A battleground that takes no prisoners leaving the field desolated. As a result, adolescents are left psychologically, emotionally, and mentally torn to pieces. They must navigate two cultural systems that contradict on another. The dominating American culture stresses individualistic idealism whereas Vietnamese culture stresses collectivistic idealism.
The Voice: Well, Mrs. Dryer, I go to a very competitive school. I have to take competitive classes. It's not as though the work load would go down if I dropped to a lower level. I had a very busy week, and the play just started. I'll have more time this week. I promise to practice more between now and next lesson.
Bowen’s family systems theory is beneficial in recognizing the family as an emotional system in which the living members are powerfully attached by relationships between each other that support and strengthen their survival (Knauth, 2003, p. 333). Growing up as the first generation Vietnamese-American to be born in the United States, there are many issues pertaining to the differences of new and old culture and multi-generational differences. Some of these issues include triangles, the multi-generational transmission process, and emotional cut-offs.
Speech Synthesis Speech Synthesis is the process of synthesizing speech from some sort of symbolic linguistic representation. Text to speech synthesis systems can be divided into two broad categories. They are. Rule-based techniques and techniques. Data-driven approach They are discussed in detail in the following subsections.
“Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson presents Melinda’s (a teenage girl) life as she drifts through her adolescent years, where she struggles to overcome internal depression, as well as typical issues, involving her social life. Melinda’s life in an obscure world, where enigmatic challenges constantly clog her path towards a normal and healthy life, she feels lost and betrayed. Likewise, the boy that raped her attends the same school as her, causing her to have constant memories of the event. Thus, Melinda’s defective life compromising of rape, lack of communication, and depression mirrors the lives of many teens around the world. In addition, this book revolves around the dominant theme of adolescence, resulting to an effect of a realistic- fiction novel.
Once while your run by speeches that are very powerful and motivational in a sense such as; I have dream speech or in this instance, Michelle Obama’s commencement speech at Bowie State University in 2013. It can be inferred that Obama really cares about pushing and help the next generation to preserve, by pursuing a higher level of education. Not only in her speech does she exudes this excess of exuberance for higher knowledge, but it also seen throughout her valiant efforts throughout one of her programs “Reach Higher Initiative”, which helps revitalize or push young adults and adolescent to continue their education after high school. It is only right throughout Obama’s speech to push education as hard as she did and by doing so she used a
I was born and raised in Vietnam, so I naturally observed my culture from my family and my previous schools. I learned most of my culture by watching and coping the ways my family do things. My family and my friends all spoke Vietnamese, so I eventually knew how to speak and understand deeply about my language as I grew up. At home, my mom cooked many Vietnamese foods, and she also taught me to cook Vietnamese food. So I became accustom Vietnamese food. I also learned that grandparents and parents in my culture are taken care of until they die. At school, I learned to address people formally and greet higher-ranking people first. In Vietnamese culture, ranking and status are not related to wealth, so they are concerned with age and education.
What is the “message” or theme of the song? In a paragraph, summarize in your own words what the song is saying. (Big Idea)
In my organization I have notices there are two specific cultural differences which include age differential and classification individuals are place into which includes: government civilians, military, and contractor. The military leaders are younger, while the civilians are becoming older, therefore it has causes a communication barrier because of the age. As Hackman and Johnson (2013) stated “Leader can run into serious difficulties when dealing with followers who prefer a different communication style” (p.304). As civilians, most of us understand the lifestyle of the military culture and how they communicate to one other, but some civilians doesn’t like to be treated as a battle bubby. Sometime it is difficult for other colleagues to
Telling your stories and allowing your voice to be heard defines who someone is. Someone that let’s their self be vulnerable while telling their stories, so that a reader can connect to the writer’s feelings. When you think of a great leader, you think of them as a great speaker. With them speaking they must have a voice in something influential to have a following. Their voice speaks to people in a way that connects to them. That’s what I wanted to do with my stories and voice.
Being instrumental reflective has more weaknesses than strength. By interviewing three people with different communication styles, I realize the tendency and pattern of my own style. I identify the reflective side as the “real me” because I use it most of the time. It serves as a good listener along normal conversation with friends and family members because conflict seldom happens through this approach. The only weakness for the reflective side is lack of confidence when I communicate at workplace. The instrumental side appears only when there are conflicts and problems that need to be resolved. The above example from Enesha and Kathy clearly explains how I change to instrumental in a sudden.
Majority of USA College students know some aspects about singing, but do they know what all goes into singing? For some people, singing is more than a hobby; it is their way of living. So, if the vocalists do not follow certain rules, the vocalist’s singing voice could be damage. Readers should know the quality of singing, but the readers should know people’s misconceptions about singing as well. To be a singer he or she must follow certain rules to singing and this will make his or her sing voice last longer. If vocalists do not take care of his or her own body, the singing voice could hinder him or her from the correct way of singing songs the proper way. Singing can be fun, but the vocalist has to work hard for his or her voice to sound beautiful.
An opera is created with a combination of many different art forms, some such as singing, dancing, and acting. It takes in many forms of art and combines it into one, called an opera. Many people have different opinions of things such as an opera, for me I believe that it is a creative way to express feelings in the matter of art, like how a picture is worth a 1000 words. Opera is like an art where the stage is like a canvas, and as the characters take on their every move it is like a stoke on a painting capturing the imagines, like a live canvas. On March 21st we were invited to Elgin theatre to learn a making of an Opera by Opera Atelier, we spent the day learning how an opera is put together and the many steps and art forms used.
Everyone is a part of a community. Most people are a part of multiple communities. A community is a group of people that have a commonality. Sometimes it is based on where you live, hobbies, goals, etc. I believe that communities are created unconsciously and are connected to someone’s identity, especially when a person is considered a part of multiple communities. Sometimes, a person may connect very well with their community. Sometimes, a person may feel very distant from their community. In the movie, “English Vinglish”, the main character, Sashi, shows examples on how communities are created through commonalities, and the acculturation theory. Sashi was a part of multiple communities. A few communities included her, her Daughter’s school,
