Music can be ever so powerful. It can fill one with rage, laughter, happiness, and even fear. Music has the ability to change moods in seconds. For those reasons and many more, people all over the planet find solace in music, especially classical music. Classical music can pull at heart-strings and completely engulf anyone’s emotions. Many composers have written pieces that are still enjoyed hundreds of years later, but none compare to that of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It all started in Salzburg, Australia in 1756. Mozart was born into music, as his father, Leopold Mozart, was a composer himself. Mozart’s father tried to teach his children everything he knew. Classical music was much more structured than the baroque music preceding it. Baroque music as very complex and energetic. The rhondo style was ABACABA as compared to classical which was ABA or ABACA. Along with classical music came some new sophisticated forms of music; the opera, which was more vocal, and the concerto, symphony sonata, which were instrumental. Mozart had such a true love of classical music, it could clearly be seen in his work. Some of his more famous works are The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, and Requiem Mass. The sheer quality of his music and the fact that a lot of it was done at such a young age, is what made drove Mozart into the spotlight. When I hear Mozart, there is one piece that comes to mind. Eine kleine Nachtmusik is such an uplifting, enlightening piece. The piece makes my feet tap and my hands flow as if I am conducting Mozart’s music in person. Growing up, I visited a rather unique annual Christmas light display that twinkled with the beat as that song played. Any time I hear this song I think about the happiness of Christmas and all the miracles that go along with it in a child’s imagination. His music can literally change people’s lives. Studies have shown that listening to Mozart’s music truly can effect one’s mind. “After listening to Mozart 's sonata for two pianos (K448) for 10 minutes, normal subjects showed significantly better spatial reasoning skills” (Jenkins). Besides the fact that Mozart’s music is exciting and invigorating, this could be the reason that people still love his music after hundreds of years.
