The movie “Freedom Writers” relates to the chapter one A Nation at Risk, by giving examples of the Six risk behaviors in students. The one being Behavior that contributes to unintentional and intentional injuries. The movie takes place in a high school that is know for their racial street gangs. The students repeated say in the beginning of the school they will protect their own race. The students would plan to take action against other gang groups if they wrong them at school or on the streets. One of the students at the school would carry a gun in school and had the intended to use when a school wide fight broke out. One of the students at that school was shot and killed in the crossfire. 82% of 15 to 19 deaths are killed with a firearm. …show more content…

In the movie a student in the movie would be ask by one of his neighbor or maybe gang member to sell drugs for him. The students show in the movie that all of the students know were to get drugs and alcohol. The other four are sexual behavior that leads pregnancy and HIV, one of the students from the movie goal was to get pregnant and drop out. The dietary patterns that contribute to disease, insufficient physical activity and the use of tobacco. The movie did not show the last four, but they were hinted at throughout the movie. For some of the students the school was not a safe environment for them, the problems from the streets follow them to the classroom. A school must be safe and healthy environment if students want to succeed. The students in the movie did not have good family background and for most did not have parents. A teacher role should be a bridge between the school and parents. A teacher needs to motive students in the classroom to do well, while their parent needs to make sure they get work done when not in …show more content…

The school did not treat the level one students to same respect that the honor students receive. The classroom was dump with old technology like a chalkboard and mistreat student desk. The school did not give the teacher same reading books that other classes were given. The students receive destroyed books and were dumb downed. The students were very involved towards with fund raising money so they can have a guest speaker come up. The teacher setup a positive emotional environment for her teachers. She had high expectations for her students to achieve, like for them to read and understand “The Diary of Anne Frank.” She did not see the student as untouchable, but show them as human beings by showing them respect. The teacher was familiar with the student’s interest, by teaching them what the holocaust was and how it related to her students everyday life. She would also pick other books that related to their situation. She tried to connect to the students by playing the music their like and connected to the topic at hand, but the students saw through her trick and did not react the way the teacher wanted. The teacher was always optimistic and enthusiastic even when she students could care less about the topic at hand. She would have a great sense of humor and make awful jokes that made she students laugh, because they were so corny. She did not allow students to be put down by other students,
