Different forms of stereotypes can be seen virtually everywhere. The movie English Vinglish (2012), directed and written by Gauri Shinde, explores the importance of the English language. The movie depicts the concepts of language and shows the stereotype attributes and how it influences the main character 's conflicts and the atmosphere in which she operates. The protagonist, Shashi Godbole, struggles with the English language and eventually enrolls in a 4-week English-speaking course to stop her daughter and her husband from mocking She eventually earns self-confidence and self-respect at the end. Stereotypes exist in every society and it is important for people to understand cultural implications and differences and not to have prejudice views against a specific culture. English Vinglish illustrates the story of Shashi Godvale who is housewife and a focal point of the story. Shashi runs a business at home by making laddoos. Her everyday life consists of doing regular household chores. From the beginning to the end of the movie, Shashi has been shown as a cook, a cleaner, a chauffeur, and posses many other occupations. Throughout the film, Sapna feels a sense of embarrassment due to the fact that her mother is unable to speak the English Language. For Example, when there 's a Parent-Teacher meeting, the daughter refuses to go with her mother because she doesn 't speak proper English. Likewise, Sapna also feels embarrassed and rebellious towards Shashi when she is unable to communicate with her classmate’s English-speaking mother. English language is shown as a powerful subject and conveys sense of control in terms of family relationships.
