Movies are one of the most popular contents which are produced purely for entertainment. They are loved by almost every age group and class of people. However, people differ in their movie viewing preference according to their gender, age, temperament, and life desires. Today, movies have become a central source of entertainment. When movies were first produced in the early 20th century, no one could imagine that they could grow in popularity to even depose many ancient forms of entertainment. The movie industry evolved and grew from an industry dominated by family oriented businesses to a mature, multifaceted industry. Most of these studies have been consistent in showing that indeed horror movies have an impact on a child. One of the most visible effects of horror films on children is anxiety (Fritscher 1). At the time of watching the movie, a child may feel his/her heart rate and blood pressure increasing. This is attributed to the increase in the production of adrenaline as the child is scared by the characters and events in the movie (Ilovindia 1). This creates tension. However, after completing watching the movie, the tension, may turn to excitement. Images of the evil characters may run through a child’s mind such that he/she fails to concentrate in order to sleep. Sleeping in the dark may be a problem for many viewers because darkness reminds them of the gory scenes in the movie. Some viewers may have nightmares that wake them up at night, thus disrupting their sleeping patterns. In many instances, horror movies might cause the inability to sleep through the night on the day of watching the movie. Some children may fail to resume normal sleeping for few days after watching them. However, movies that have powerful characters that the child can relate may make him/her to lack sleep for weeks and even months after watching the movie.
