Nowadays motivation is either driving athletes to obsessive or completely out of the sport. We see athletes start sports at such a young age that we now see the sport as a job for these athletes before they are ten. As coaches, we have to realize that our athletes have to take a break from athletics before they damage their bodies, mental status, or their love of the game. As coaches, we can all agree that we would love to be out there participate again ...

...n, it is something that takes time and effort to develop through learning how to cope with defeat, keep the passion high, and becoming an athlete that they worked for. An athlete should learn how to appreciate what they have worked for, but also appreciate what everyone else has done for them as well. An athlete can be given all the skills in the world, but lose everything because they lose their motivation. Motivation keeps an athlete, coach, and everyone else going when life gets tough. Motivation drives win better, work harder, and develop into a well- rounded athlete and person. “When all is said and done, it’s not the shots that won the championship that you remember, but the friendships that you made along the way” (Scheepers, M., 2011). This is what motivation is about, motivate yourself and your will learn how you can motivate your athletes through anything.
