Decisions made in present can have huge impacts on the future; especially decisions that pertain to one’s whole life. One such decision is the decision of getting into a relationship or getting married. There are many questions that arise in one’s mind while making this decision. How wealthy is that person? How is the personality of that person? How good-looking is that person? How is the job position of that person? How is the family of that person? In today’s modern society, these questions get so important that people ignore the fact of whether love is present in their relationship. When greediness and a want of money become more important than the feeling of love, so many problems arises in the lives of those people that there might not be any possible solution for them. Certainly, things that look fascinating may not be the right choice every time. Money has a lot of attractive power; and this makes it have a much larger influence on people’s mind than it should. As said by Garth Brooks, the famous American Country singer, “You aren’t wealthy until you have something money can’t buy.” The main character of “The Bloody Chamber” was a seventeen year old girl when she decided to marry a guy named Marquis. She was fascinated by his lifestyle, his property, and his wealth; but she did not feel anything for Marquis. When asked by her mother whether she is sure that she loves Marquis, she replies back that “I’m sure that I want to marry him” (Carter 13). She even ignored the fact that he was considerably older than her and was married thrice before. Her desire to become rich and to have a financially secure life made her marry Marquis even though she did not love him. She never thought that this decision could get her into many kinds of problems. She never thought about what kind of husband she wanted. Undoubtedly, money can make people so blind that they lose their decisive power, and make poor decisions. Usually, it turns out to be the death or a really desperate condition of the controlling person as no one can live a happy life by making others unhappy. Everyone has to pay off for the deeds they perform. Sykes had to pay off for his bad actions when the rattlesnake attacked him instead. Delia ignored his yearning for rescue and silently waited under the China berry tree for his death. It is certainly true that “if someone in your life makes you unhappy than they make you happy, it doesn’t matter how much you love them, you must let them go. Not because you no longer care, but finally because you are keeping your needs and happiness first.” This moment marked Delia’s freedom; it marked the end of her sufferings that she faced due to Sykes. Certainly, bad actions always results in misery and punishment. Marquis faced a similar condition when he was shot by the main character’s mother when he was trying to murder the main character. The murder of both the dominant partners perfectly shows that the relationships that do not keep love as the main bond of feelings always end up in a wretched condition.
