Norway, one of the most beautiful Scandinavian countries, is known for its rich history, beautiful scenery, and wonderful people. Situated between Sweden and the Norwegian Sea, Norwegians benefit from natural resources such as fish, forests, minerals, and petroleum. Let’s take a closer look at the environment, economy, and culture in Norway and gain a better understanding of the country that we, as SodaStream, will be entering.
First off, anyone who has been to Norway or even seen pictures of it will testify to its great natural beauty. Perhaps the most unique and beautiful aspects of its topography are the fjords, high mountains, and waterfalls that decorate the country. Because of the Gulf Stream Current which moderates the Norwegian Sea, Norwegians live in a temperate climate. Depending on how far inland you travel, climates will vary (nhh.no.com). Throughtout the west coast area, they experience rainy summers and mild winters but as you travel inland, the winters are more harsh and the summers are very sunny and extremely warm. As I mentioned, due to the huge coastline, fishing is the second largest export in Norway and a vital part of the economy. Forestry is equally profitable as 33% of Norway consists of forested regions (cia.gov) Natural gas and minerals are also abundant in Norway, adding to their wealth of resources. Norway sits as the third largest exporter of natural gas. Remarkably, almost all of the power in the country is produced by hydropower through all the the mountain rivers. Not only does Norway boast many valuable resources, but they are very good at making the most of them and harnessing their power (Lyssand, Hallvard).

Water makes up 75% of human body. It is the most important ingredient in our bodies. Today many people ignore drinking water and concentrate more into the carbonated drinks. One of the main reasons I would think people drink more carbonated drinks (such as sodas and sport drinks) is because of the way a company hype up their products and use their marketing strategies to influence people into buying them. Many benefits come out of drinking water. First, it quenches one’s thirst much better than any carbonated drinks. Second, it keeps one’s skin clear and healthy looking. In addition, it protects the human body from several diseases. Many people choose drinking sodas and sports drinks than water because water does not have much of a taste and carbonated drinks are flavored and tasteful. I guess I am one of those people who has being caught on to the hype of the soda companies. I do not really drink much water I would say I barely drink two cups a day, but I know the how good water is for my body. So I am modifying my behavior by adding more water to my diet.
America was built on the foundations of independence, adventure, and patriotism. The people of the original thirteen colonies sought out more. They yearned for the once forbidden expanses past the Appalachians and west of the Mississippi when they were under the control of the tyrant British crown. While the beauty of the frontier intrigued early settlers, nature became a tool to build society. This conflict characterizes the relationship Americans have with nature today. While at the conception of America, a passionate relationship with nature, which inspired and provided an escape from the corruption of society, today, Americans have a conflicted relationship with their surroundings because nature is seen as a resource rather than something sacred.
Norway is one of the “three fingers” of Scandinavia, and is just larger than New Mexico. It covers 125,181 square miles. It is located in Northern Europe, bordering the North Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. The coastline stretches 21,925 km. The population of Norway is 4.3 million and growing. The population is predominantly or Nordic (Scandinavian) decent. There is also a small minority (20,000) of native Sámis (Laplanders), who live mostly in the North. Many aspects of business and management in Norway are very similar to those of America including language and communication, power structures/politics, work ethics, food and eating habits, dress, and religious beliefs.
The consumption is very low in the emerging markets is miniscule compared to the US market. A lot more money would have to be spent on advertising to get people used the carbonated drinks.
Experimentation with the new market for carbonated beverages on the decline coke has done experiments in new flavors and healthier alternatives to try to stay competitive. When it comes down to carbonated drinks there are two major rivalry soda companies dominating the market. Coca Cola and Pepsi are two well know cola distributors with very credible history, but the question still remains one is America’s favorite? With the ongoing competition between Coca-Cola and Pepsi, each company is incorporating new strategies for marketing and advertising there brands.
