In the quote provided by Glotfelty, she states that in order for human beings to effectively
overcome a global crisis they must first analyze how their ethical systems function.
Exemplifying an understanding of ethics, the human code for right and wrong, gives better
weight of being able to propose an idea for reformation. Ethics is the moral code and philosophy
that dictates and systemizes the rules of conduct for many societies, without it society would
be lurched into turmoil. Soylent Green, for example, illustrates a Dystopian world where food
shortages is a major environmental issue, it’s due to the lack of resources that people’s overall
sense of morality and sense of ethics is being called into question. Over the course of the
film, we’re given

In this world people are not buried, they’re not celebrated, instead their remains are
collected and converted into a product to be ignorantly sold and consumed by the masses. We’re
not given any insight to a grieving process. The line
In order to spark change in a global crisis you have to first recognize the ethical issues at
hand. How do these issues play into the crisis and can they be changed? Soylent Green proposes
many issues, mostly pertaining to basic human rights. Poverty, hunger, oppression and equality
are all common themes that are represented at least once throughout the film. Glotfelty had stated
that it is ultimately up to us, the people, to reform our ethical systems. Our ethics and sense of
morality is what easily shapes and influences how we perceive society. Soylent Green proposes a
potential future of what could happen if we don’t pay attention to our citizens and regard to our
natural resources. To this day, Soylent Green serves as a blatant example of what could
potentially happen to human society if we don’t take the precautionary steps to preserve
the world around us, including our most moral and basic
Understanding of ethics and the consequences of not following the principles laid out by the code of ethics can be very hazardous to a person or to a community as a whole.
Food, everybody has to eat food. In this century there are millions of different foods that can be eaten. But sometimes while Americans indulge in the luxury options of foods, I wonder if they ever really pay attention to how bad many foods are for their bodies. I think everybody should turn to organic foods to help them live healthier lives. The reason that foods are so bad for the body to consume is because foods are packed with GMO’s. GMO’s are “genetically modified organisms” which are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses, or other plants and animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature, naturally (“GMO Facts,”2014).
Develop an action plan that is consistent with the ethical priorities that have been determined as central to the dilemma
The purpose of the study is to determine how sustainable food is helping America economically and health wise rather than unsustainable foods. In this study I will examine what it means for food to be sustainable and unsustainable. I will find out how America is able to stay strong due to the use of sustainable foods. While, showing that America is also slowly dying, because of the problem, which is unsustainable foods. In this study I will also determine how unsustainable is destroying America's environment.
Nowadays, people are giving more importance to food labels than ever before. The variety of terms and definitions is overwhelming, organic, transgenic, non GMO, processed food, just to name a few. Considering all the available media information, it should not be such complicated decision. The message remains the same, organic food is good, and transgenic food is not. However, is organic food really the best option? On the other hand, is transgenic food really dangerous? What are the scientific studies supporting these facts?
Food, food, food, is what our American culture revolves around. Supposedly biotechnology has been used to make “improvements” in our food, from the fast food industry to our local grocery store. This has gone largely unnoticed by the general public. Maybe you’ve heard of a GMO? These supposedly improved, genetically modified organisms aren’t very beneficial to our bodies at all, but the FDA wouldn’t want us to notice that. GMOS include alfalfa, corn, flax, rice, sugar beets, yellow summer squash, canola, cotton, papaya, soy, zucchini and wheat.

There are many themes that occur and can be interpreted differently throughout the novel. The three main themes that stand out most are healing, communication, and relationships.
I believe Wirzba’s claim to be very accurate. If we cannot learn from our actions and how they affect ourselves, others, and the places we inhabit, then we cannot entitle ourselves to be moral beings. We must strive to learn to appreciate everything around us and treat it respectfully. When we experience fruitful outcomes, we then gain knowledge of how to act as moral beings and perform actions that are ethical.
Human beings are confronted with numerous issues throughout his or her lifetime that would require him or her to examine the best action to take to avoid the damaging consequences. In most cases, individuals restrain his or her action to take into consideration the consequences that may lead to the right or wrong behavior. One’s ethical and moral standards are first learned at an early age from his or her culture, how he or she is raised, religious background, and social system. Scientifically, there are various ethical theories, such as the virtue theory, deontological ethics, and utilitarianism (Boylan, 2009). By understanding these theories one can compare, contrast and uncover the reasoning behind his or her ethical and moral standards.

From the extensive Movie Theme Index List found at textweek.com, the following themes were distinctly identified in the film:
First, arranging moral precepts into ethical systems facilitates understanding of well-defined values, norms, and beliefs adopted by a group. In turn, groups express these beliefs by codifying them through rules, laws, and codes of conduct intended to influence decision-making, especially when a poor decision would lead to corruption, and loss of professional trust. More importantly, ethical systems provide moral justification for activities that appear to defy innate human instincts. Lastly, ethics provide insight into the cause and effect of a potential action or decision, allowing the group to determine what is right (ethical, effective, and efficient) within an established framework. All of these ethical characteristics are important to understand because they can compel an individual or group to act contrary to a universal human
