Money can buy happiness for a short amount of time, but after a while, they will require even more. The Great Gatsby shows a great example of money cannot buy happiness and portrays this very well. F. Scott Fitzgerald in the novel, The Great Gatsby, implies that money cannot buy happiness.
Gatsby has all the money yet he is not happy when he throws gigantic parties at his house. Daisy, the one he tried to lure in with his parties, never cared to show up. The love shown by Gatsby towards Daisy, “’I want to wait here till Daisy goes to bed. Good night, old sport.’ He put his hands in his coat pockets and turned back eagerly to his scrutiny of the house as though my presence marred the sacredness of the vigil. So I walked away and left him standing there in the moonlight – watching over nothing” (Fitzgerald 145). Gatsby cares so deeply for Daisy; he makes sure that she remains asleep before he can rest easy. Gatsby has these parties nearly every day and spends an extraordinary amount of money to attract attention from Daisy. He eventually finds out that people around often are willing to help and that money will be no help. Through Nick, Gatsby eventually gets reunited with Daisy. He spends thousands trying to make himself happy, yet it only leads him to making more and more sacrifices to achieve that happiness and when he does his money does him no good because Tom has more of it.
Daisy is an important of money not buying happiness because she resides with Tom only for the money and will not be truly happy until she meets Gatsby. When Daisy had her baby, she expressed unhappiness and this displays it very well, "It 'll show you how I 've gotten to feel about – things. Well, she was less than an hour old and Tom was God knows wher...

...atsby is a no one and has not done anything to get his money. He also says Gatsby does not have enough money to “buy” off Daisy and shows an example of money buying happiness. Tom also uses his money to make him happy rather than Daisy, with Myrtle but Wilson, also there and Tom hates poor people like Wilson. He makes Tom mad which does not equate to happiness of Tom and therefore coming to the conclusion of money cannot indeed buy happiness.
F. Scott Fitzgerald in the novel, The Great Gatsby, implies that money cannot buy happiness. When people try to buy happiness it usually ends up not giving happiness as a result, and gives the thirst for more happiness and it will just be an ongoing cycle of greed for happiness. Money cannot solve the issue of satisfying the feeling of happiness because it will only give temporary happiness and leave you with everlasting lust.
