The American Association of State Troopers has given 1.9 million dollars in academic scholarships since they were established in 1990 (“Fund raising” 1). “The mission of the American Association of State Troopers is to enhance the personal and professional lives of state troopers across the country by providing important benefits and services, facilitating the exchange of professional and technical information, and expanding opportunities for camaraderie for troopers beyond their own state lines.” The American Association of State Troopers is all about helping retired state troopers get the money they need to support their families and to give students who are pursuing a law enforcement career scholarships.
In February 1989, state troopers in Florida created the American Association of State Troopers to offer other troopers around the country benefits that help them have more control over their lives. The foundation AAST was established as a non-profit association that offered membership to full-time active and retired troopers and officers who joined as members.
The American Association of State Troopers was incorporated by the National Board of Directors. (“About AAST” 1). The United States Army has been a leader in military prowess on the world stage since its inception in 1775, and with such a record, it is reasonably assumed that there must be solid foundation within the organization working to maintain the high level of performance. The Noncommissioned Officer Corps is one institution within the Army that serves as a large portion of this foundation that makes it the fighting force that it has always been, and the noncommissioned officers have been an integral piece since the very inception of the Army. The Prussian General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, organizer of the Noncommissioned Officer Corps, encapsulated this idea when he coined the noncommissioned officer (NCO) as the backbone of the Army. (Arms, 1991) In an Army that is continuously adjusting to world around it while maintaining its status as the military leader to all other nations, the Noncommissioned Officer Corps has always provided the platform for continuity through a growing rank system based on its original core, an evolving training program to develop effective leaders, and a creed that moves us forward while remembering the rich history of the corps that came before us.

In order to be considered a profession, the organization must have an ethical code rooted in values, strong trust with its clients, and be comprised of experts within the trade. In a police department, the uniform patrol division is the most critical and significant unit which draws a connection to all of the other moving parts within the agency, not to mention the entire criminal justice system. Uniform patrol officers are the link between the public and the justice system. They are the first official form of authority to make contact with the accused offenders, therefore determining what happens to that individual after that. The patrol officers have the most influence on the daily activities of the department and the citizens. They are the most visible representations of the justice system from the viewpoint of the general public. The officers do not write the laws they are responsible for enforcing statutes that

Founders of the organization, Frank Shankwitz and Scott Stahl, had not originally set out to begin what today is one of America’s biggest non-profit organizations. In my high school career, National Honor Society members have always been people to look up to, not only for their status, but for everything it stands for. My academics and education have always been a priority for me. I have been extremely fortunate in having access to prosperous schools, dedicated teachers, and a support system of equally motivated friends and peers.
