Prejudice can be seen from an individual having biased opinions about a certain group, with very little knowledge. Prejudice can be defined in many ways, such as an attitude of how people think about others or people judging ignorantly. But to Gordon Allport, “Prejudice is a thinking ill of others without a sufficient warrant.". This is how prejudice is defined to an individual who is still witnessing this crisis. This person discovered that apart from the race, color, national origin or gender, people in today’s world, share an universally existing problem: “PREJUDICE”. There is alot of evidence that a person’s prejudice is wrong, but still, individuals ignore it. There are several sources that lead to this problem, such as people having influences who are prejudice, which could be complicated to break down later on in life. Also, it can come from ignorance and fear, because individuals can be prejudice to a certain culture where they could know a little about them, and are afraid of how that certain culture is different from them in language, behavior or customs. In addition, prejudice is also derived from pride. People think their race, culture, beliefs or values are superior to other groups. Although some people have doubts about being able to eliminate the problem, it can be solved. There are individuals who set aside the doubts and believes that prejudice can be solved. Some of the ways that people have thought of solving this problem is education, exposure to other cultures and by setting a good example.

Here is a question that is asked to every individual, “Is Prejudice about greed?” Some may deny it is not about greed and some will agree. Shylock from “The Merchant of Venice” portrays the greed when he was offered a chance of change, taking the money instead of taking a pound of flesh of Antonio. But, his greed of seeking revenge cost him greatly, he decided to take Antonio’s flesh, but there was a loop hole in his contract, so it prohibited him from taking the flesh. With his greed of seeking revenge on Antonio, Shylock now suffered consequences that he will severely hate.
Prejudice will always be around in the society, but people are becoming more acceptable of every culture, race, beliefs, values, or customs since they are more educated about others, have more exposure of cultures and are setting good examples for other individuals to follow.

One form of prejudice is racism. Racism is negative attitudes and values held by people about other people based on their race. It is this attitude which causes one to discriminate against another. Discrimination is treating people unfavorably on the basis of race, color or sex. Prejudice and discrimination were prevalent in the 1950s and 1960s. Two Ways to Reduce Prejudice Two ways in which prejudice can be reduced are Equal status contact and the pursuit of common goals. Deutsch and Collins (1951) carried out an early study of equal status contact. They compared two kinds of housing projects, one of which was thoroughly integrated with blacks and whites who were assigned houses regardless of their race, and the other was segregated. The residents of both housing projects were intensively interviewed and it was found that both casual and neighbourly contact were greater in the integrated housing with less prejudice among whites towards blacks.
Prejudice is an issue that cannot be easily avoided in today's society. It has and always will have a huge impact on the discrimination that some people face based on religion, appearance, background, mental/physical disabilities and etc.

From the reading I learned prejudice is when a person attaches negative emotion to a certain group of people that is not based on facts. Ignorance is a huge problem, it is one of the biggest factors responsible for issues such as racism and sexism. Luckily, ignorance, generally speaking, is a relatively easy issue to fix. The obvious answer here would be more education, but this is not necessarily the case. In order to eliminate much of the racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice that arise due to ignorance, it is necessary to look at education from another perspective: one that encourages togetherness and development alongside people of all races and genders. One quote by Grace Boggs book The Next American Revolution summarizes the issue perfectly. “Just imagine what our neighborhoods would be like if, instead of keeping our children isolated in classrooms for twelve years and more, we engaged them in community-building activities with the same audacity with which the civil rights movement engaged them in desegregation activities fifty years ago! ...Our children will be absorbing naturally and normally the values of social responsibility and cooperation at the same time that they are being inspired to learn the skills and acquire the information necessary to solve real problems” (Boggs 158). So, the main point here is that prejudice, against all sexes, genders, and creeds, can be eliminated via education that encourages cooperation with the largest variety of people. In order to understand this concept, it is necessary to look at it from a few different perspectives to analyze its viability in modern society.
Prejudice can be caused because of various reasons. Religion, ethnic race and social status are examples of causes of prejudice. Sometimes prejudice is caused by how we are raised. Many times parents pass on prejudice beliefs to their children. A lot people raised in the southern part of the country are prejudice against blacks. In the early to mid 1960’s, prejudice was alive and well in the south. Blacks had their own bathrooms and were forced to ride in the back of city busses. It’s hard to believe that was doing on only 40 years ago. A lot of Middle Eastern countries are very prejudice against women.
