Manipulation is a powerful tool used in an unfair manner to manage or skillfully influence one’s opponent. Psychological manipulation is a type of social influence that aims to change the perception or behavior of others through underhanded, deceptive, or even abusive tactics. By advancing only the interest of the manipulator, often at the others expense, such methods could be considered exploitative, abusive, devious, and deceptive. Some may get confused, but manipulation is not the same as social influence and social influence is not beyond a shadow of doubt negative. For instance, a certified health nutritionist may persuade a client to make healthier food choices in order to meet their goals. Depending on the motive and the situation it is noted as innocent.
