There are several methods for conducting research, and one particular quantitative/qualitative method is the case study. This paper tries to expose advantages and disadvantages of using such a method to conduct scientific research. Furthermore, this piece of writing will identify and consider certain characteristics of a case study.
Definition of a Case Study A case study is a research approach used to obtain results that provide insight and contribute to our understanding of a complex issue in the context of our society (Avery, A., Creswell, K., Crowe, S., Huby, G., Robertson, A., and Sheikh, A., 2011). A case study can be defined as the research method needed to investigate events, social issues, and phenomena in real life context (Avery, et al., 2011). According to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2010), a case study is a report of data previously gathered as a consequence of the work performed with “an individual, a group, a community, or an organization” (p.11). However, every case study demands the formulation of clear questions, great mastery of the language, and abundant knowledge of the existing literature on the topic (Scapens, 2004). This poses a threat to some researchers who think the case study method is easier. Nevertheless, this rigorous process is outweighed by the innovative and very practical results obtained through case studies (Rowley, 2002; and Scapens, 2004). Another disadvantage Rowley (2002) explains is the lack of control over the variables in comparison with an experiment. Lastly, Rowley (2002) states that by using the case study approach the researcher’s ability to carry out an investigation of certain phenomena in its context increases; and that this method avoids the need for replication in a laboratory
In the book Introduction to Research: Less Fright, More Insight: a Customized Version of Research Methods: Are You Equipped?, the author defines a case study as “an in-depth observation of an individual, animal, event, or treatment method (pp. 73).” In this paper, the student will be writing a case study about herself, and she will explain what it is that she has learned about research. More importantly, the student will then evaluate her experience from a biblical, Christian perspective.

Case management refers to when a person or people in need require an environmental intervention. The Conrad Hilton Association defines case management as “one of the primary services offered to individuals and families who face multiple challenges, including severe mental illness, addiction, and homelessness.” Case management often helps those who are struggling or who are in need, however, the term tends to be used very loosely within organizations.
The purpose of this case study is to investigate and bring new insight to situations and behaviors within an organization. Case studies are learning tools which utilize social science research to identify and resolve individual and organizational challenges (K. Mariama-Arthur Esq., 2015).

Before I start making the assignment, I have read the case to get and understanding the big picture or the situation in the case study. After that, I analyse the case first by understanding the content in the case study and think creatively the relation between the case and the topic. Then, I read the case again and actively take notes or underline passages. After that, I discussed with my team to identify the key issues in this case, to know the problem that are related with this case study. After I identify the issues in this case, I and my team member generate possible solutions, think about consequences of various paths of action, and weight the advantages and limitations of solutions.
What is a case study? A case study is a process or record of research in which detailed consideration is given to the development of a particular person, group, or situation over a period of time. There is many different types of cases; rape, robbery, arson, kidnapping and finally murder. Case studies lead to trials;a formal examination of evidence before a judge, and typically before a jury, in order to decide guilt in a case of criminal or civil proceedings. One famous case study that went to trial was Jodi Arias Trial. Her case was her getting convicted of brutally murdering her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander.
The Law of Comparative Advantage was introduced by David Ricardo in 1817 in his book ‘Principles of Political Economy and Taxation’. Case studies are a collection of data obtained using various methods gathered on an individual or group to record areas of interest in order to assist with analysis and provide recommendations. The study should include the name of the person, although this should be protected to provide anonymity where appropriate, and a brief description of the subject. The setting where the study is to be performed should be included. The aim of the observation must be presented along with a report of the findings. The type of method used will depend upon the subject and the area of interest. Data is gathered on the subject in this case observations were used to provide the data. An interpretation of the study will be made in order to provide a conclusion and recommendations made if applicable. Freud famously used the case studies that he carried out on his patients to develop his Psychoanalytic Theory.

In addition, the study uses a case study as a proof-of-concept. The use of a case study is a qualitative empirical study to strengthen the research validity. Since the research methods directly responding to the research questions (Literature review and Model building) make use of textual data, we classified this study as a qualitative study. Table 3.1 below summarises the classification of this study in terms of the dimensions discussed above.
