...w replied, what you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.” (Exodus 18:17-18)
Jesus’ approach to mentoring is obvious: He guided in order for us to follow. Jesus stated, “If anyone will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me” (Matthew 16:24-26). Since Jesus is our leader therefore we must follow Him. To be a Christian mentor it requires us to submit to Christ. As Christian mentors, we must realize that we are not controlling the relationship, Jesus is. Therefore, the Christian mentorship is best described as joint sharing, faith, and improvement as the mentor and the mentee grows. Proverbs 9:9 which states, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.”
