Around the world, there are numerous issues. At least once in every country’s history, there is an outbreak of war, disease, and immigration disputes. All over the world, environmental thoughts lay at the back of the people 's minds. The environment is one of the few world problems that everyone, everywhere agrees is an issue that needs to be solved. Certain environmental issues seem to take predominance over other all of the other world issues. The melting of the polar ice caps seem to be one of the top environmental problems that is in need of a solution. The only problem is, the polar ice caps are not disappearing.

NASA found that the land ice in Antarctica has had a net increase of 0.7 inches per year. Despite the decline of ice on the west side of the continent, Antarctica has continued to grow. The reason for this increase of land ice would be due to the increased amount of snowfall in the past 10,000 years. The ice losses in the western part of Antarctica are outweighed by the increased snowfall in the eastern parts. The increased snow has also pulled in more oceanic water to freeze. The eastern part of Antarctica has actually taken .23 mm away from the rising sea level each year. The environment is one of the only issues in the world that everyone agrees to protect and fix. The environment does need to be protected, but society focusses on the wrong parts. They focus on the rising CO² levels and the melting of the polar ice caps. The ice caps are not disappearing, so instead of focusing on the ice caps, society should focus on protecting the environment from oil spills, toxic waste spills, and other environmental hazards. The CO² levels are healthy for humans and plant life alike, so instead of the healthy greenhouse gas being blamed for the world problems, maybe we should look at how to fix the rise of the harmful greenhouse gases that are damaging the earth. As a society, we focus on the problems of the least importance. If we spent just a little bit more time on the real problems, maybe the problems would already be
