During the 18th and 19th century there was a big revolution and much advancement in technology, medicine, agriculture was made. The advancements changed and helped change everything, for people it made life and work easier, healthier and safer. These big advancements and inventions helped create the world and economy to what it is today. The two big advancements of the 18th and 19th century were Technological and Medical advancements. What exactly were these advancements and who helped make them possible?
One of the advancements of the 18th century was the creation of the first gas powered automobile. Karl Benz, from Germany, created the first automobile powered by an internal combustion engine. This helped spark the creation and mass production of automobiles. The other big technological advancement was the creation of the first successfully flown plane by two Americans, Orville and Wilbur Wright. This helped lead to the creation of bigger, faster and farther flying planes. Probably one of the most important and remarkable inventions of the 18th century (besides the automobile) was the invention of the telephone. It changed the way of communication forever.
The telephone, like a lot of the other inventions, made life and work easier. Instead of having to wait weeks or days for someone to get your letter, or talk to someone in a different country, all you had to do was pick up the phone, dial a number, and you could talk to someone without having to leave your home. The telephone was created in 1876 by Canadian, Alexander Graham Bell. Technological advancements like these helped make people’s lives easier.
Along with the creation of practical inventions of the Industrial Revolution, there also came advances in medicine and science. The scientist Faraday, of the 19th century, helped contribute to the field of physics and create electrical generators. Another scientist named Dalton helped lay the foundation for the modern atomic theory by creating standards and theories about elements. Marie Curie of France also helped by discovering the elements: Polonium and Radium. Polonium was later used in nuclear research.
Throughout the 19th century, many discoveries in the field of medicine, helped and improved the health, longevity and well-being of people. Probably one of the most important medical advances was the discovery of the method of pasteurization and vaccinations.
Medicine has developed so dramatically over the last century that it is difficult to imagine a world in which its many benefits did not exist. Even as humans manage to eradicate some diseases, a look at history reminds us that there was a time when these and other diseases were rampant, and good health was the exception rather than the norm. There are many comparable time periods that medicine was needed and was used. With each, there were drastic changes to medical procedures and medical rules. Of the many different time periods that medicine was used; the comparison of medical care during the American Civil War and medical care during World War I is the most interesting. How did Civil War battlefield medicine compare with World War I battlefield medicine? That's a question that cannot be simply answered, but can be broken down into the overall sanitation of individuals, medical techniques, and overall medical staff for armies.
This time period also saw many new inventions that would change American society forever. Such things as the telephone, radio, and television are things that the average present day American could not imagine living without. But a hundred years ago people were amazed at such things. Railroads were now able to bring people all over the country while steam ships could bring you all around the world and airplanes could let you fly. The horseless carriage turned into the automobile.
Medical procedures and inventions are constantly being developed and made better. World War 1 was a time in which many of the procedures used today were first thought of and used. It was a time that inspired the doctors and nurses working today, not to mention the fact that it’s a topic that still affects everyone in the world today. Medical advancements made during World War 1 had a major impact on the world as evidenced by those advancements still in use today.
For Americans, this allowed for overnight travel and became time-saving. Beneficial to businesses in the railroad industry, the demand of these cars went up. Moreover, Alexander Graham Bell was an inventor who created the telephone in 1876, inspired by the hearing impairment of both his mother and wife. The patent of this invention was soon recognized globally, and affected the means of communication. Although it was a novelty item, it was crucial and necessary for businesses to possess.

There were many different advances in the field of medicine after World War I, some of the main, medical advances, were in the field of surgery, development of new drugs, and in the field mental health and phycology.

During this scientific revolution throughout the 16th century was categorized with big advances such as the making of new lenses by Galileo, Kepler and Huygens leading to new information about the stars and space, Magellan circumnavigating the earth, Columbus discovering the Americas, Gutenberg’s printing press advancing literature rapidly, and a religious reformation by Martin Luther that changed the church indefinitely (Graham, 2009). The scientific revolution continued far into the 17th century which was categorized with major findings in mathematics with Leibnitz and Newton independently discovering Calculus, Antoni van Leeuwenhoek discovered bacteria, William Harvey published his findings on the circulatory system, Newton’s laws of motion, and continued work on understanding the universe (Wikipedia Selection for schools – 17th century, 2008/9).
