We all eat meat almost every day, besides those who are vegetarians or vegan, meat has become a food we rely on daily, what else would be the base of our meals? But eating too much meat is actually bad for our health. Eating too much meat is linked to heart diseases, cancer, and obesity. According to Scientific America, between the years 1971 to 2010, production of meat worldwide tripled to about 600 billion pounds while global population grew by 81 percent, meaning that we are eating a lot more meat than our grandparents. So cutting back on our intake of meat can increase our health. Processed meats are the worst for people out of all of them. In an article done by Cancer Council, The World Health Organization has done a study and classified processed meats, including ham, salami, sausages, and hot dogs as class one carcinogen, which means there is strong evidence these meats cause cancer. Other meats such as red meats like beef and lamb has been classified as a probable cause for cancer. In conclusion eating red meat is bad for us because of all the negative health effect, the environmental issues, and the poor treatment of animals. Eating red meat has been linked to many different types of cancer and also heart disease. The production of this meat is killing the environment. It produces greenhouse gases and using many of our natural resources. We could use these natural resources for much greater things than producing meat. Last but certainly not least the treatment of these animals is inhumane. The way these animals live and the conditions in which they live in is a factor in the health effects of the meat and the environmental issues. We can do so much just by slightly changing the way we eat, and it would bring a huge positive impact on our health, and the environment.
