Measurements of Weights, Volumes and pH:

Concentration, expressed as molarity, is defined as the amount of molecules or ions in a fixed volume of a particular substance. In order to make the desired concentration of a solution, the solute is weighed with the help of a balance or scale and then completely dissolved into the solvent; it then goes through a volume adjustment to ensure the desired concentration is achieved. The concentration of the solution can be represented in many ways, by percentage of weight, percentage of volume or parts per million (ppm). Some Chromatography applications use a “volume, volume, volume” ratio, which indicates the amount of each substance, in liters, in the final mixture.
To avoid errors in the weight calculations, it is important to weigh the beaker in which the solution is being added to before adding the solution and always making sure to tar or zero the scale or balance before weighing; this will ensure that the weight is accurate. Tarring the beaker, involves using the beaker, as it own weighing boat to avoid transfer or loss of any of the solvent or solute weighing boat to avoid transfer or loss of any of the solvent or solute.
“Volume measures the size of an object using length measurements in three dimensions.” Volumes can be measured in several ways, including volumetric flasks (large solution volumes) graduated cylinders (less accurate than volumetric flask) and pipetting (small solution volumes). When using a graduated cylinder or a volumetric flask, it is important to make sure that you are reading the accurate line. To avoid mistakes, make sure that you read the bottom of the meniscus and not the sides, this can be achieved by placing the flask or cylinder on a sturdy table and l...

The isoelectric point is the point in which the amphoteric molecules are zero. The molecule is catatonic when the pH is below the isoelectric point. This means that there are more positive charges than there are negative charges in the solution. When the pH is above the isoelectric point then the molecules are anionic and there are more negative charges in the solution than there are positive charges in the solution. These previous explained characteristics affect the amino acids that make up protein deciding their movement throughout a solution. For example, if a protein has a pH that is below its isoelectric point it will be positively charged and move towards negative charges. This is true for an opposite scenario, if a protein has a pH that is above its isoelectric point then it will be negatively charged and move toward positive charges.
