Organizations cannot function successfully with having a solid Mission, Vision and Values. Although this can be said in any type of organization, it is especially true for fast food restaurants that come in different types and styles and along with that, each has their own Mission, Vision and Values that they follow. Three fast food restaurants that are leaders in their industry are McDonalds, Sonic and Chic-Fil-a. All of these restaurant’s Mission, Vision and Values most represent that restaurant and how they do business in their market. Brief History Each of these restaurants has a long lasting reputation that stems from years of service to the community. Starting with the oldest and possibly the most recognized restaurant is McDonalds. According to Cady, Wheeler, DeWolf, and Brodke, (2011) the mission statement is used to let people know why the company is exist. According to McDonalds (2016) the mission of the restaurant is to be the favorite place for their customers to eat and drink. They are dedicated to the employees and the positive effect on the community. The have touched a few important parts in just a few sentences with their mission statement employees, customer and community. The Golden Arches are a household name and it appears what they have in their mission statement is working. Sonic’s mission statement rest on the restaurant’s legacy of the perfect drive in. According to My SONIC (2015) they are the largest chain of drive-ins servicing customers and communities all over with their wide variety of menu items and their car hop service. Their mission statement is rather simple and they just want to be the best and grow as communities grow. Chic-fil-a differs from the others in regards of a mission, statement according to Chick-fil-a (2015) they utilize a purpose statement and the purpose statement establishes why the restaurant is here and what they are here to do. The organization values its employees, customers and communities much like the other two restaurants. The purpose of the restaurant is to serve the people in the best way possible. Having great customer service and moving forward according to core values.
An article discussing the importance of a mission statement states that a mission statements’ job is to outline the organization’s unique purpose and establish the basis of its values and traits, as well as describe the attitude that is to be expected of those a part of the organization. Furthermore, this philosophical foundation sets the “tone” for physical actions, meaning that the content of the mission statement can determine the behavior of personnel (Hitt & Ireland, 1992).
A mission statement express the core purpose of an organization and its reason for existence. Mission statements are vital to an organization because they communicate and set the foundation of the purpose of their existence. They shape the attitudes and behaviors of the members of the organization and the perceptions of the public (Hess, 67).
A mission statement should define the organization, why they exist, who they are serving, and what products and services they offer (Aguinis, 2013). Aguinis (2013) includes eight components for a good mission statement. These components are products or services offered, customers being served, benefits to their products or services, technology being used, growth and profitability, managerial philosophy, public image, and self-concept of business by the employees and stockholders (Aguisis, 2013).
This is very important when running a business. The mission statement states the reason for the organizations existence. This helps lead the business to success and shows what they stand for and help lead them to their goals. Starting off with no mission statements has not worked out for the company, and they have problems with marketing and sales problem also. With the company not having a mission statement this has played a role in the marketing and sales problems I believe. Cowgirl Chocolates started off as just a way to fund their art magazine, High Grounds, and not thinking it would actually amount to something. Not only do they need to come up with a mission statement they will also need to create a vision to point the company in the right
There are several characteristics an effective mission statement has, operations, investments, and relationships with organizations outside the firm (Meredith & Shafer, 2016). A mission statement is a formal declaration of both the core purpose and focus of an organization which remain unshaved over a period. Although, a mission statement holds the value of the company, it is not an effective mission statement without these appropriate capabilities. For instance, operation excellence. Operation excellences is a purposeful collection of people, objects, and procedures for operating within an environment (Meredith & Shafer, 2016, p.4). Liberty University, for example demonstrates
Mission statements are meant to inspire and convey direction that the organization intends to stay on.”Through a mission statement, policies and procedures, a proper management style, and direction, criminal justice administrators attempt to ensure that the organization maintains its overall goals of crime treatment and suppression, and that it works amicably with other organizations and people” (Peak, p. 25). Mission statements are a written declaration that reflects the core purpose behind who the organization is and what they stand for. It encompasses the important elements and keeps people within the organization on the same page, defining what is important, the goals, and excludes the unimportant.
The above mission statement is from a Devon Energy Corporation, an Oklahoma energy company. A mission statement is an overview of the company that briefly explains what values and goals they have. This mission statement has many parts to it; when you break it down and look at it in pieces you get a better idea of what the company is really about. Breaking it down the main points that stand out are: being results oriented, building value for shareholders through employees, the atmosphere they
Mission statement is a commitment or function which organization expects to meet requirements of their stakeholders (Revoredo‐Giha & Renwick, 2012). It tells that how organization is running their business, how to identify their consumers and how to serve them as well as to identify the range of products and services. The mission statement of Sainsbury is,
Chick-fil-A is affected by numerous external forces which challenge upper management’s ability to make Chick-fil-A "America’s best quick-service restaurant". Through intense strategic planning, based upon the vision, mission and corporate values, Chick-fil-A has been able to establish a unique position in a very competitive industry. The corporate purpose of Chick-fil-A, "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact witch Chick-fil-A", their commitment to family and the community, and their sound business decisions, have made Chick-fil-A one of the most profitable and fastest growing quick-service restaurants in the nation.
The fast-food industry is changing everyday. There are new products being introduced in the market and new slogans being created. The companies in the fast-food industry will do their best to make the greater burger, and to make bigger and better fries.
Have you ever wondered how the business empire of McDonalds was started? With over ninety nine billion served, it was started in 1940 in San Bernardino, California. It was started off as just a Bar-B-Q that served just twenty items. Its first mascot was named “Speedee” They eventually realized that by setting up their kitchen like an assembly line that they could be much more productive and get their food done faster, with every employee doing a specified job; the restaurants production rate became much higher. A milkshake machine vendor came into their small restaurant one day, his name was Ray Kroc. He saw how much potential the restaurant has, so he bought it out and opened one of the first franchises. Within the first year of Ray Kroc buying it, there were one hundred and two locations all around the world. McDonalds currently is one of the largest fast food restaurants in the world and currently has served over sixty four million customers through one of their thirty two thousand sites. It has almost become a way of life for America. Though, McDonalds started off as a small business between two brothers, it grew into one of the largest restaurant franchises in the world and greatly affects our society and how we eat our food.
To sum up all information above, it is understandable that McDonalds has positioned itself as fastest and cheapest fast-food retailer. According to this statement, the main competitive priority for the company is low-cost and dependability of their product. Nevertheless, McDonalds takes into account other competitive priority like high design-performance, credible consistent quality and cultural flexibility.
Fierce and growing competition – big fast food companies like Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken are constantly competing with McDonalds for customers and trying to take the spot as the top fast food chain.
Beginning with one restaurant, Sonic has become the largest drive-in chain in the United States. While they are smaller than their competitors, they are still leading in sales growth, customer loyalty and customer satisfaction. Sonic restaurants saturate the southern U.S. This gives them the opportunity to expand to other area. However, Sonic is reluctant due to the colder climates and their basis as a drive-in restaurant. Sonic should look at adding or combining capabilities to it’s restaurants to increase competitiveness and make it easier for them to expand into other areas without limiting themselves.
My job right now is a cashier at Taco Bell so when I saw what the mission statement was for them I was really impressed with it. Their mission statement is Taco Bell 's full mission statement is "We take pride in making the best Mexican style fast food providing fast, friendly, & accurate service. We are the employer of choice offering team members’ opportunities for growth, advancement, & rewarding careers in a fun, safe working environment. We are accountable for profitability in everything we do, providing our shareholders with value growth.”(Tacobell.com) When I saw this I was very happy to see that this is exactly what they teach us while training us to do the job. They say to do our job in a sense of urgency and make sure the customer always leaves satisfied. My favorite response to this question was by Ashley Hjelmstad where she said “Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.” I think that this is really cool because the company they represent is really something special. Google is one of the most powerful companies in the world due to the length they sell their products and the fact they have so many inventions. Their company reaches no end with the technology from phones to computer software and apps for phones. This mission statement pretty much summarizes what they are all about,
