The artists I have chosen for my research paper are Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti. The period the two artists lived in was the Renaissance period. The term Renaissance means “rebirth”. Many things were reborn during this time period, but we are going to discuss art. For my first question, where did you both study art and how has it influenced your work? Leonardo responded, “When I was 15, my father apprenticed me to a renowned artist, Andrea Del Verrocchio, in Florence.” Even at a young age, Leonardo displayed amazing talent. By the time he was in his early thirties, he was out shining his mentor. Then Michelangelo responded with, “I have received my formal education from the painter Domenico Ghirlandaio and the sculptor Bartholdi di Giovanni who lived in Florence as well. However, I was only an apprentice for one year, and then I went to stay with the sculptor Bartholdi di Giovanni. While staying there, I was given access to a collection of Ancient Roman art by the ruler of Florence.” While in Florence, Michelangelo becomes acquainted with the classical art, which had enormous influence in his work. This is where Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti both studied art and what influenced their designs.
For my next question, how are you, Michelangelo and you, Leonardo da Vinci alike and how are you different? Leonardo replied first by saying, “We are alike in the sense that we are both Italian and lived in Florence. Both of us apprenticed to talented artists of our time and are polymaths, meaning we are both knowledgeable about many different fields of study. This includes; being a painter, sculptor, architect, engineer, as well as an inventor (Biography.com, 2011). However, Michelangelo is a very...

In the Florence and the early renaissance, we have the greatest master of art like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Sandro Botticelli and others. In this period of time the painters almost never show their emotions or feelings, they were more focused on indulging the churches and the wealthy people. In The renaissance period the art provides the work of art with ideal, intangible qualities, giving it a beauty and significance greater and more permanent than that actually found in the modern art. Florence and the early renaissance, the art become very valued where every artist was trying to create art forms consistent with the appearance of the beauty or elegance in a natural perspective. At this point in the semester these two aspects of abstract painting and the early renaissance artwork have significant roles in the paintings. Increasingly, man was accepted as an autonomous individual and emphasized as his own measure, resulting in a loss of true meaning. The “Mona Lisa,” “Pieta,” and “Arnolfini Wedding,” are beautiful masterpieces which not only exemplify esteemed Renaissance art, but also boldly display the convictions of their artists. While Leonardo da Vinci and Jan van Eyck realized the tenants of the gospel and understood the flaws of humanism, Michelangelo adhered to the commonly accepted beliefs of relativism. Most of his contemporaries valued the human intellect, underemphasized their powerful God, and shared Michelangelo’s position. Unsurprisingly, the ideals of humanism that emerged in the Renaissance have not died off, but set the stage for the morals of humanism observed
