Superiority and discrimination have been the underlying problem in many world-wide events throughout history leading into present day. Whether it be a caste system issue or a race issue, there’s always a group that labels themselves greater than that of another. This affair was apparent in 1940s Germany. The German people would be persuaded into a dictatorship led by Adolf Hitler, who while in power would give rise to Nazism, allowing the mistreatment of Jews to commence. This extermination would be known as “The Holocaust” translated to “sacrifice by fire” and would affect many different people groups during and after the event. German children would grow up under the impression that the Holocaust was “sins of their Fathers” and would be expected to deny the existence of the event. Studies show that most German children did not in fact think anything of the lack of Jewish in their environment due to the denial by their own people5. During the time of the Holocaust, the media and education was very meticulously manipulated to where it wasn’t as obvious as to what was taking place. German schools would educated pupils in a way that portrayed Hitler as good and Jews as different. Hitler also would found something known as the Hitler youth program in which the German children would attend in order to have early learning and military training. Youth were taught at a young age to respect the government and the leader, and would not be allowed to complete any action or thought that could conclude mistrust or suspicion to authority. Hitler was the dictator by which this event was organized. Throughout the years of his rule, he led the mass murder of approximately 6 million people and as his life came to a close, he would show no signs of remorse. However, based on writings left behind, he instead still blamed the Jews for starting the issue. On April 30, 1945, the day after marrying his mistress, while in his bunker, he and his new wife would together take cyanide in which they would die together. The Holocaust was the time period when Adolf Hitler was in control of the territory of Germany and wanted the extinction of the Jews. The Holocaust was a very vigorous on the Jews because they were treated the worst and had the worst living conditions. The Holocaust derived the Jews of their wealth, and little bit of humanity that they held dear to themselves. Adolf Hitler established laws to make it basically illegal to be a Jew in Germany. Since Adolf Hitler was in power he commanded that all Jews properties and valuables be taken. For example, in the book “Maus” it states, “He had to sell his business to a German and run out from the country without even the money.”(

Hitler is commonly referenced and linked with World War II, and has become famous for his brutal dictatorship in Germany. Adolf Hitler began the persecution of Jews with the belief that they were insignificant to the human race. Along with Jews, he believed that handicapped, mentally ill, and elderly people did not deserve the right to live. This horrifying genocide killed over 2/3 of the Jewish population in Europe. 6,000,000 Jews were murdered in concentration camps and mistreated by the Nazis.
After Germany lost World War I, it was in a national state of humiliation. Their economy was in the drain, and they had their hands full paying for the reparations from the war. Then a man named Adolf Hitler rose to the position of Chancellor and realized his potential to inspire people to follow. Hitler promised the people of Germany a new age; an age of prosperity with the country back as a superpower in Europe. Hitler had a vision, and this vision was that not only the country be dominant in a political sense, but that his ‘perfect race’, the ‘Aryans,’ would be dominant in a cultural sense. His steps to achieving his goal came in the form of the Holocaust. The most well known victims of the Holocaust were of course, the Jews. However, approximately 11 million people were killed in the holocaust, and of those, there were only 6 million Jews killed. The other 5 million people were the Gypsies, Pols, Political Dissidents, Handicapped, Jehovah’s witnesses, Homosexuals and even those of African-German descent. Those who were believed to be enemies of the state were sent to camps where they were worked or starved to death.
In January 1933, the Nazi's came into power in Germany. They believed that Germans were the superior race, and that the Jews were inferior as well as a threat to the German racial community. It was not only the Jews that were deemed "racial inferior":Gypsies, the disabled, and some Slavic peoples. Other groups were targeted based on their political, ideological and behavioral grounds. Although the Holocaust continues conveying negative influences, the Holocaust also led to positive medical and technological improvements. However, in spite of the horrific occurrences, the associated medical findings and technological improvements make it intricate to look at the Holocaust as plainly evil. The Holocaust was one of the biggest disasters the world has ever seen. More than 1.5 million children were murdered 1.2 Jewish children, along with thousands of gypsy children, and thousands of handicapped children. To begin with, Racism had a big effect in the genocide and murders in Germany. According A Teacher's Guide to the Holocaust, it states that “ It was the explicit aim of Hitler's regime to create a European world both dominated and populated by the "Aryan" race. Some people were undesirable by Nazi standards because of who they were,their genetic or cultural origins, or health conditions.” (“ Victims” ). It is so devastating that someone could kill or torture anyone who was not like them or who fought against them. The Jews were required to carry their identification cards. They were also excluded from businesses, parks, resorts, and forests. German children were taught that the Jews and Gypsies were not as good as the Germans. One of the methods used to teach German children was to make the Jewish children stand up and point out their distinguishing features. The Holocaust was the extermination of not only 6 million jews but also the murder of those who did not meet Hitler’s criteria of the ideal Aryan race, i.e gypsies, homosexuals, disabled and black people.People responded in various ways. There were those who supported the Nazi Regime, But there were also groups who resisted the Nazis such as the Partisans Oskar Schindler resistance movement, throughout Europe and in the ghettos.

I will tell the story of the Holocaust through many different personal accounts of people involved in many different sides of this incredible story. I will do this by using the personal accounts of surviving victims, of those not directly involved in the event, though affected by it, and the defense of the Nazi party. One of the most important factors at play in the successful extermination of so many Jews was the actual history of the Jewish community spread throughout Europe.

The other leaders that helped Hitler also killed their self’s so they didn’t have to do the time in prison for what they did. The American troops and the other troops found the bodies of these leaders and burned them to make sure they were long gone. But it wasn’t in a few days that the news that Hitler was dead came out to the public.
Throughout history individuals from different societies have had their rights restricted by others to the point where genocides have been committed. These genocides did not erupt in one day, but rather gradually, which normalized the process. Initially placing individuals into categories which are considered inferior creates circumstances conducive for genocide. Genocides require many factors to come into play, but throughout history, we have seen their reoccurrence. The Holocaust is a genocide that resulted in the death of twelve million individuals. The horrendous events which happened during this genocide should be remembered not only so that we are able to recognize the indicators of similar situations, but also so that we may learn about the effects of the event. It is important to visit the Holocaust Museum to gain knowledge about an event which profoundly changed the world.
