Ambitions and aspirations constantly motivate us through life and the difficulties we encounter daily. Our deepest desires give us the strength and inspiration to achieve our goals. The ambitions in our lives usually originate from something we experienced through the course of life. Two examples of great leaders are Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Dr. Benjamin Elijah Mays. Both Dr. King and Dr. Mays dedicated their lives addressing racial discrimination and striving for social equality. Dr. King and Dr. Mays possessed a vision of an improved world. They both identified challenging issues in society and struggled to determine solutions for the issue.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spent an extensive part of his life advocating for civil rights and social justice. Dr. King believed that African-Americans should be granted equality and segregation should end. His ambition was for all African-Americans to receive the same opportunities as any other Americans. Dr. King had been extremely passionate about his ambition. His passion and dedication to achieve racial equality has been demonstrated in his speeches and letters such as I have a Dream and Letter from a Birmingham Jail. For instance, in Letter from a Birmingham Jail, Dr. King declares, “But when you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and drown your sisters and brothers at whim; when you have seen hate-filled policemen curse, kick, brutalize and even kill your black brothers and sisters with impunity….” Dr. King vividly portrays instances of racial hatred and injustice that African-Americans stumble upon on a regular basis. Dr. King’s ambition to end the repugnant racial hatred originated from his experiences with racial hatred.

Our goals almost always develop from past experiences, and these goals somehow appear into our thoughts amidst the exhaustion of our hectic daily lives. Dr. King perceived a blunder of the world and was motivated to fix it. Similar to Dr. King, I also have a dream, which is to make it easier and inexpensive for people in third-world nations to have access to technology. Being born and raised in a third-world nation deprived of technology, I realized the importance of technology and how it can benefit a society. Technology is already an immense part of our daily lives in the United States, and it is expanding every moment. Citizens of developed nations take it for granted, but citizens of third-world nations live a life with little to no technology.
