Marriage
There are different ways around the world that people celebrate marriage, but what does marriage actually mean? How did it all start? To many, marriage is the joining of a man and a woman who want to be together for the rest of their lives. It is the legally or formally recognized union of a couple or in some jurisdictions, two people of the same sex. Marriage is when you find your soulmate and unite as one at a wedding ceremony.
Marriage started in ancient times and was all about love, today it has little to do with it. Back in the day when people had kids they would often marry them young and the children had no say so. And it was estimated that majority of marriages were between first and second cousins. Polygamy was very common

It is a big party for the friends and family who attended the wedding. At the reception the newlyweds enter and share their first dance as husband and wife. The first dance is usually to a slow song that the couple has chosen or sometimes a dance piece created by the couple that they perform. They vary with traditions and culture. At your typical reception there is a meal that is served, music and lots of dancing. The bride also throws her bouquet of flowers to all the single women and who ever catches it has her good luck. It was traditionally done to escape the women from tearing off parts of her dress for good luck. And the groom does his garter toss which is an old wedding tradition. He gets it off the bride’s leg and throws it to all the single guys and the guy that catches it has his luck. The purpose of these is that the lady who catches the bouquet and the man that catches the garter will be the next two to get …show more content…
In a marriage I think that it can be between anyone, even of the same sex. There is no right or wrong way to love. Many people though are against same sex marriage because the bible forbids it, or they think it isn’t right. Same sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states. Love is love and there is nothing we can do to change that. If you love someone it doesn’t matter what color they are or what gender. No matter what type of marriage it is always team work and commitment. Marriage is serious, it’s not always happy and fun. There is no breakups or breaks or just walking
Within Canada we have a generous amount of freedom but this leads to the abuse of our system. This is especially true with regards to polygamy in Bountiful, BC. Because women are susceptible to mental abuse in polygamist relationships it should continue to be illegal in Canada. If this law is in enforced it would help women to be freed of the oppression caused by male domination, eliminate the need for women to suppress feelings that conflict with the ideals of the polygamy life, and aid in avoiding depression resulting from the build-up of concealed feelings.
Slave marriages among other slaves and slave owners have always placed a social burden on the plantations and the government of the United States. What were the social issues that occurred as slaves had relations with other slaves or their masters? Government scandals, black salve owners, and law changes have all came about as part of the social discrepancies that came along with slave relations. Biographies of William Ellison, the first African American slave owner, will be scrutinized to see the social implications of a slave master owning slaves of the same ethnicity. Personal Journals written about the Thomas Jefferson and Sally Heming's case will be analyzed to see the government scandal placed on Jefferson’s slave relations. These social issues helped play out the course of slavery in the United States of America.
Abstract By definition, polygamy is the practice or custom of having more than one wife or husband at the same time. Polygamy has been commonly associated with the Mormon Church and television Shows like: Big Love or Sister Wives. Due to differing beliefs between polygamists and monogamists on the sanctity of marriage and relationships, those who have multiple partners are looked at as pariahs and their beliefs as taboo. Polygamy remains one of the key topics in various societies.
This will always be a topic that Mormons will be associated with. In the past, around the time of Joseph Smith, polygamy was in practice. During that time period, polygamy was happening because it was believed that through revelation, God commanded his people to partake of it. When Wilford Woodruff became the fourth president of the church, he released an official statement that disassociated the approval of the church with plural marriage. Nowadays this statement is still true. In fact, the leaders of the LDS church have even said that anyone who practices polygamy will be excommunicated from the church. They do this in order to help maintain the idea that the Mormon’s are no longer associated with the church.
Polygamy was brought to the United States in 1852 by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was an accepted practice of marriage. The church started to practice this form of marriage earlier in 1843, but most marriages were spread throughout many countries but kept quiet. Joseph Smith was the founder and pushed the “coming out” of polygamy. He “testified an angel with a sword came to him many times and commanded him to practice polygamy or else he would lose his life” (Church History). Joseph Smith had 33 wives and taught Mormons that Jesus Christ himself had been a polygamist. In 1890 however, the United States urged the church to abandon the practice of polygamy, this brought upon the Manifesto. The Manifesto banned the practice of polygamy and those found practicing would be ex-communicated. Many still practicing polygamists decided to form their own path and practice in secret...

Mention the concept of polygamy in any “civilized” gathering, and you just may be able to see the shiver of repulsion that ripples through the crowd. By substituting the word “polyamory” in, you will be able to circumvent this reaction – but only because everyone is staring at you in baffled silence instead. So we begin, as always, with definitions.
Marriage is the bond between two people of the opposite sex that have went in front of a minister and exchanged vows. Marriage is different for every one, and I have been influenced a great deal by my parents. My parents have been married for the past 26 years and they will probably stay that way the rest of their lives. However marriage is not what it once was, today you have people getting into a marriage for other reasons than love and knowing that they can get out of the marriage if they feel any anxiety or conflicts of interest. Marriage is a special bond that has been destabilized over the years.

During early times husband and wife were not much together; they did not even eat together very often.(The Marriage Institution 1). Their marriages were always planned by their parents and in some cases brides were bought. Polygamy was also frequent in the early history of marriage. Although, as civilization progressed monogamy became the idealistic goal of human sex evolution.(The Marriage Institution 6). In addition, as civilization advanced, marriage became more seriously regarded and the wedding ceremony became recurrent. The marriage ceremony grew out of the fact that marriage was originally a community affair and also primitive man had no records, so the marriage had to be witnessed by many people.

To understand the concept of marriage in a biblical sense, God created Adam and Eve. Before they were one, Adam was created by God as ruler and earthly dominance over his creation. God had given Adam a job. Which today man is given a job first then given a wife and family. After giving Adam instructions over his earthly creations, God felt something was missing. God gave Adam a wife named Eve. At that point, the need for man to have companionship was established. Companionship is the need to communicate with another. It is the need for a couple to talk about how they day went for a hard day of work. Companionship is a help mate. It's better to have two to help than one. Companionship then result into marriage. Married couples are considered as one. Traditionally, when a couple is married and recites their wedding vows they are one. The woman is no longer referred to as Ms. Brewer but takes on her husband name as Mrs. Reynolds.
