Market Analysis Summary Pocahontas Memorial Hospital (PMH), in the southwest region of West Virginia in Pocahontas County (see Appendix A) covering 942 square miles, is looking at the feasibility of opening a satellite health clinic (CSU-Global, 2016). PMH is a 25-bed, level-4 trauma center, and has a rural health clinic located within the hospital, offering laboratory services, immunizations, disease management, and monthly specialty clinics (cardiology, podiatry, and nephrology). Some of the obstacles the county is currently facing are a shortage of healthcare providers, only one hospital, PMH, and one nursing home, Pocahontas Center. In addition, the local economy is depressed; there is a substantial barrier to health access; and the area has a difficulty attracting health professionals. With the shortage of healthcare providers, the ratio for primary care physicians is much higher than the national average at 8508 to 1 in this rural community (County Health Roadmaps & Rankings, 2016). Mission. The project supports the organization’s mission, vision, and goals. PMH is a federally designated Rural Health Clinic with a mission to be the “first choice for integrated health care by hardwiring excellence through continuing education, effective collaboration and by providing exceptional customer service” (PMH, 2016). PMH is committed to excellence in delivering “compassionate health care and promoting healthy life styles” and ore values include: • Be a collaborative partner to improve the health of our communities • Be a leader in patient education, prevention and outreach • Utilize evidence based practices in the delivery of care • Foster a culture that exceeds expectations • Sustain financial viability in a changing he... ... middle of paper ... ...st the system that allows at a speed that is comfortable for the first year. As CMS outlines, providers can pick their pace for participation in MACRA, with a final ruling expected by November 1st, 2016 that will address the burdens of excessive reporting, unique issue facing PMH as a small rural facility and how technology can help patient care (Jayanthi, 2016). SWOT Analysis By determining the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in a business, as Frue, (2014) notes, the organization can have a better understanding of “pain points, customer needs, and how to market more effectively” (para.1). A SWOT analysis is effective in determining barriers and opportunities likely faced by PMH in the opening of a satellite clinic. The goal is gathering information in determining or ensuring the clinic is sustainable over the long term. (See below or Appendix D)
