I play for the Marist College water polo team. I practice five days a week, for about four hours a day (6:45 am to 11:00 am). We are a spring sport and dedicate the entire fall semester to getting ready for spring season. We even cut our winter break down two weeks shorter to get in extra practice. Winter break practice is a lot harder because there are no rules and regulations on the amount of time we are allowed to practice. If the coaches so please, they can keep us in the water the entire time without a break. Now a coach would never do that because they would not be receiving maximum efficiency from us. We would be too exhausted but the point was that there are no rules for them. Our practices start off with a morning lift in the gym where we pick weights up and put them down in all sorts of manners. Once we are done with the workout in the gym we are off to the pool to set it up for water polo. Before we throw balls into the water we start off with a warmup and a swim set. The swim set lasts about thirty to forty minutes and then we move into passing to warmup our arms. After that is completed, we move to shooting drills where the field players shoot on the goalies. Once the players have a feel for how the techniques work into the game, we scrimmage for the last half hour. This involves the coach splitting us into two teams and playing a game against each other. Since there are three goalies we just rotate in a circle and play on both teams. When season comes around our team travels to California three times during the year to compete against teams that are ranked twenty and up in the nation. Keeping a clear open dialogue will make the employee aware of the expectations and not blame anyone else but themselves if the expectations are not me. If there is not clear dialogue, then there is no clear expectation. Tools such as, the halo effect, sacrifice, and goal priorities will help set the path to a clear dialogue and help with team innovation and team cohesion. Without the constant innovation of the team, there will be no development and growth allowing the competition to surpass them. Without team cohesion, there is not much of a team but a bunch of individuals playing for themselves. In this research, one can say that changing someone’s mindset on how to play on a team may be difficult but there are many weapons to choose from.
