Maria Montessori a pioneer for helping women and children. Whether it being medically or educational wise, Maria devoted and dedicated her life to helping teachers in Europe then around the world understand why it’s it key to learning and studying early childhood development. Maria broke down gender barriers and advocated for disabled children when others wouldn’t, this is why Maria Montessori is an inspiring legend to millions of women and children.






For the Children: Maria Montessori the Miracle
Maria Montessori was born on August 31st, 1870 in Chiaravalle, Italy to a Ministry of Finance worker and to the great nice of the Italian Geologist and Theorist Antonio Stoppani. While Maria was growing up Italy had strict conservative values and traditions for women, she began at an early age breaking gender roles at age fourteen she attended a technical institute called , Regia Secuola Tecnica Michealangelo Bounarroti. At this institute she developed a loved for science particularly for biology. In 1890, Maria enrolled in the University of Rome to study medicine. (Montessori Bio, 2014) At the university she took courses in Botany, Anatomy, and Organic Chemistry. In 1892, she earned her diploma dei licenza and entered the medical program in 1893. While at the university Maria faced many hardships such as gender discrimination from her peers and professors, but she didn’t let that stop her and became the first female doctor in Italy in 1896. After completing the medical program Maria began focusing on pediatrics and psychiatry as her practice specialties. Maria also publishes a thesis, Poloclinice. She began working at her alma mater treating children from poor and working class families at this point she realized that social ...

...ian government supported her but her son was placed under surveillance after this she resigned from Opera Montessori which caused her to lose all schools and funding in 1936. (During WWII, her and her son fled to India and she gave lectures on peace and education. Maria came back to India where she gave another three months seminar, teachers were encouraged to stand back and follow children let their natural instincts lead them. (Bligadoo, 2014). In 1947 she moved to Amsterdam and began vacationing while also traveling to London and opening an institute. Also in 1950 she represented Italy at a Scandinavia conference and presented her 29th training course. Unfortunately in 1952 on May 6th Maria passed away from cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 81. Maria leaves behind an undefined chapter of early educational findings and research that women are pioneering every day.
