Margaret Thatcher as Margaret Hilda Roberts was born October 13, 1925 in Grantham, England to Alfred Roberts, a grocer, preacher, and local mayor, and Beatrice Ethel. She, along with her younger sister, Muriel, spent most of their childhood in Grantham, helping with their father’s grocery business. Margaret’s father was active in local politics and brought up Margaret and Muriel as strict Methodists. He became Mayor of Grantham in 1945, but lost his position as alderman in 1952, when the Labor Party came into power. Margaret won a scholarship to Kesteven and Grantham Girls’ School, where she was head girl for the academic year 1942-1943. Her school reports showed academic consistency and brilliance in many extracurricular activities. In 1946, Margaret attended Oxford College and became the President of Oxford University Conservative Association, where she was inspired by the political works of Freidrich von Hayek; an influence that was evident in all her reforms and policies. Margaret graduated with second-class honors and earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1947 and moved to Essex to work as a chemist for BX Plastics.
In 1950 was when Margaret first stood for Parliament and became the Conservative contender for the Dartford Labor Party seat. She became an instant media magnet because of being the youngest representative and only female candidate at the time. Margaret knew from the start that it would be almost impossible to defeat the Liberal Labor Party, but she still gathered fans who followed at her speeches. Margaret Thatcher had many challenges in her way, but she overcame them and was very successful in her terms as Prime Minister. Even Margaret had said that she didn’t think that there would ever be a woman as Prime Minister in her era, but she managed to prove herself wrong. She was strong, powerful, brave, strong-hearted, and spirited. Margaret conquered many of her fears and accomplished many things that some people wouldn’t think was possible. She demonstrated true heart in what she did and never gave up in what she believed in. That is one of the reasons why she is considered one of the many extravagant leaders in the world. She may have only been a woman, but she has confirmed that even the smallest of people can do a remarkable amount of things that can change the world into something magnificent.
Have you ever wondered how women helped our country? There was and still are women who changed or change the world today. Like Shirley Muldowney,and Rose Will Monroe, or Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony, maybe Hillary Clinton. Some of these women changed little things and some changed big things, but they all made a difference in their own way.

One example of Thatcher’s use of diction occurs in line twenty-three of her eulogy when she refers to Reagan as “Ronnie.” While to the reader, this name is but a sobriquet Thatcher uses for Reagan, one must identify her use of diction to understand her intention for using this name. After analyzing the word’s connotation instead of its denotation, the reader can discover that she incorporates this word into her eulogy to give the reader a thorough comprehension of the friendship they shared. For the reader, this diction permits him or her to identify Thatcher’s credibility, and for Thatcher, she strengthens her claim by validating her relation with Reagan. Thatcher, however, goes beyond reinforcing her claim through credibility; upon analysis of her eulogy, one can recognize her use of diction to depict historical occurrences surrounding Reagan’s presidency. The reader can identify an example of this tactic when Thatcher states in lines five and six, “[Reagan] sought to mend America’s wounded spirit” (Thatcher). On a superficial level, this
On September 14, 1879, Margaret Sanger was born in Corning, New York. She was the sixth child of eleven children and realized early what being part of a large family meant; just making due. Although her family was Roman Catholic both her mother and father were of Irish descent. Her mother, Anne Purcell had a sense of beauty that was expressed through and with flowers. Her father was an Irish born stonemason whose real religion was social radicalism. Her father was a free thinker and strong believer in eugenics which meant Margaret possessed some of the same values. (Sanger, Margaret) Eugenics is the belief that one race is better than a different race just because they are not like them, kind of like Hitler and the holocaust. “He expected me to be grown up at the age of ten.” (Source 4.3 page 30) Coming from a family of eleven children she did have to grow up fast. Faster than most kids should have to. She left her house as a teenager and came back when she needed to study nursing. It was during this time that Margaret worked as a maternity nurse helping in the delivery of babies to immigrant women. She saw illegal abortions, women being overwhelmed by poverty, to many children, and women dying because they had no knowledge of how to prevent one pregnancy after another. This reminded her of the fact that her own mother had eighteen pregnancies, eleven children, and died at the age of forty-nine. Margaret dropped out of school and moved in with her sister. She ended up teaching first grade children and absolutely hated it. She hated children at that time. As a social studies girl, I knew most famous women in history. But without a doubt, I would choose Susan B. Anthony. She was a social reformer who played a significant role in women’s suffrage movement. As a feminist, she went against women stereotypes. During the 1800s, women were recognized as a social inferior group. Their jobs were categorized as a phrase- Republican Motherhood. A strong woman who fought for women's rights and equality of all human beings are just a few accomplishments of Eleanor Roosevelt. " Women are like teabags. You don't know how strong they are until you put them in hot water." In other words, Eleanor thought women had to be test to show their strength. From World War II to the Ku Klux Klan, Eleanor Roosevelt was in hot water many times. Despite these difficult stages, she still showed strength and courage in times of tragedy. During these time periods, she made amazingly controversial achievements. Eleanor Roosevelt deserves to be Angelina Jolie's successor for UNICEF.
One very successful leader, who was also a hero in the popular press, was Eleanor Roosevelt. Eleanor Roosevelt made enduring changes in the role of the First Lady of the United States, and championed change in human rights around the world. The First Lady became a career position, a political platform, a media persona, and a worldwide influence at a time when most women did not pursue careers. Eleanor Roosevelt stood up for women when women did not have any rights. She then stood up for African-American, most notably the Tuskegee Airmen during World War Two, at a time when African-American did not have civil rights (The Tuskegee Airmen, n.d.). Once she left the White House, she emerged as a worldwide leader of human right when she authored the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with the United Nations. Throughout her life, she used her high social standing, her political prowess, and own passion for human rights to breach barriers, influence followers, and create lasting change.
As you can see, Mary Ritter Beard was an extraordinary leader who left behind a significant legacy through her strong feminist leadership. She influenced the world today in several ways, and will never be forgotten because of the many admirable qualities she showed throughout the years.
Throughout history, there have been great leaders, some for the good of humanity, and some for the not-so good of humanity. The one element all leaders have in common is in some way, have changed the course of history. The one great leader I have found to be interesting and envision of a great leader is William Bradford, an original passenger on the Mayflower, and the first ever governor elected on what is to become, American Soil.
Bertha Wilson, most commonly known as the first woman to be a judge at the Supreme Court of Canada and she is remembered as a great leader and changed the lives of many people. Bertha Wilson showed many good character traits that all contributed to her in becoming a successful leader. Bertha Wilson was very intelligent. The first woman to judge at the Supreme Court of Canada showed integrity towards the fact that woman and men should be treated equally. Bertha Wilson was courageous and brave. A good and successful leader must always be intelligent, show integrity and be determined.
Margaret Hamilton is said to be “The Woman Who Took Man to the Moon”. Hamilton is accredited for helping the aeronauts from the Apollo 8 mission, which was set up to orbit the moon, return back to Earth safely after having received error messages from the computer system. Furthermore, during the Apollo 11 mission she became head of the flight software development team and helped the spacecraft land properly on the surface of the moon in 1969. Margaret is a good example of a computer scientist who has been able to impact the world with her skills and her build up the software development community.
