Diversity is the managerial approach towards Human resource management that is prevalent in the latter half of the 20th century. From the mid-1850s to modern times, Australian society has always been culturally heterogeneous (Wilkison & Cheng,1999) As the nation is the product of numerous migrations with their unique cultural and geographical backgrounds. Challenges involved in HRM within a Australian business workplaces, involves managers interacting with the employees through appropriate HRM strategies that seek to emphasises on the personal and cultural characteristics of the individual as the strength of a team and the organisation as a whole. As Managers are the ideal leaders in charge of changes in workplace culture and policies, who are suited to promoting pro-diversity attitudes (Houkamau, Boxall 2011) through productive, diversity-orientated people managements. The gender pay gap is influenced by interrelated work, social and family factors including traditional gender constructions that women are not able to work in certain areas or hours as their male counterparts. While other factors can include parochial approach towards women in the workforce, where managers are insistences about their view in how workplace should be structured, it can affect the earning potential and negotiation of women and diverse individuals in the workplaces (Teicher, Spearitt. 1996) Therefore it can lead to potential negative outcomes including; harassments, lower commitment and performances towards duties and lower salaries due to unfriendly management
