We live and work in a condition with challenging opportunities and dramatic uncertain economic environment, especially for managers, must have enough skills and knowledge to manage the changeable business environment. This essay will discuss whether the managers nowadays have the tendency to focus on economic results at the expense of more important things or not, and yes, the managers have the tendency to focus on the expense of more important things, the discussion will be demonstrated from the following concepts: contemporary management challenges—downsizing, workplace diversity, restructuring, globalisation and quality; organisational culture in Australia, managers’ role in managing organisational culture. Managers today must be able to solve problems based on the skills and knowledge that they have, and help the organisation be more successful.

Organisations that profit-orientated are more care about economic results, whether they will gain profit or loss money, managers in those kind of organizations need to have a good knowledge and skills to help the business gain more profit or save more costs, and there are some contemporary management challenges for them when helping the business, such as downsizing, workplace diversity, restructuring, globalisation and quality (Davidson et al. 2006; Davidson et al. 2009). Downsizing is a way to reduce costs on payroll, used as a short-term response to unfavourable conditions in the economic cycle (Davidson et al. 2006). Workplace diversity means the differences within the organisation, such as gender, race, ethnicity, and other diverse groups (Robbins et al. 2008). In conclusion, Australian managers have a tendency to focus on economic results at the expense of more important things, such as downsizing, workplace diversity, restructuring, globalisation, and quality. This essay covered the concepts of contemporary management challenges which have been mentioned before, the knowledge of the organisational culture in Australia and the managers’ role in managing organisational culture. Mangers must mastery of the knowledge within this essay, to be effective managers, and help the organisation gain more not only the profit, but also success.
