Management and Change, Bill Gates
William (Bill) H. Gates is chairman and chief software architect of
Microsoft Corporation, the worldwide leader in software, services and
Internet technologies for personal and business computing. Microsoft
had revenues of US$32.19 billion for the fiscal year ending June
2002, and employs more than 50,000 people in 72 countries and
regions.
Born on Oct. 28, 1955, Gates grew up in Seattle with his two sisters.
Their father, William H. Gates II, is a Seattle attorney. Their late
mother, Mary Gates, was a schoolteacher, University of Washington
regent, and chairwoman of United Way International.

A. The idea
In December of 1974, his partner Allen was on his way to visit
Gates when along the way he stopped to browse a magazine. After he
saw that, it changed his and Bill Gates's lives forever. On the cover
of Popular Electronics was a picture of the Altair 8080 and the
headline "World's First Microcomputer Kit to Rival Commercial
Models." He bought the issue and rushed to Gates's room. They both
recognized it was a great opportunity for business and their business
brain started to work. They knew that the home computer market was
about to explode and that someone would need to make software for the
new machines.
Within a few days, Gates had called MITS (Micro Instrumentation and
Telemetry Systems), the makers of the Altair. He told the company
that he and Allen had developed a BASIC that could be used on the
Altair [Teamgates.com, 9/29/96]. They had not even written a line of
code. They had neither an Altair nor the chip that ran the computer.

next era, will be the ones that embrace this digital revolution and
build what I call a digital nervous system.) (According to the
Interviewed on March 11, 1999 in Yokohama, Japan.)
From this interview, I could find out that he is going to make his
business even better. Making the products to suit people, to make
people comfortable, to make people interested, are the aim. Hence, I
forecast that his product and his business will be even more
successful.

Business at the Speed of Thought¨
By 1993 Microsoft's windows computer programming function became the most widely used operating system in the world. When Microsoft was still an idea, Bill Gates led Apple to believe he would help them succeed in creating the best computer programming systems in the nation, however, Gates left it unknown to Apple he planned to release his own software. Gates took notes and allowed Apple to release the software he helped them to create. Then shortly after, Microsoft introduced windows. Apple claimed Gates had stolen their ideas, as windows looked surprisingly similar to Apple's version. Gates claimed he used his own ideas because it was his own that made Apple's renowned software. As Microsoft was leading in the world, Apple threatened Microsofts position in the world of technological advances by introducing a new software program that could potentially take Microsoft's top spot in the market away from them. Gates quickly said that he had created a new software that was set to release also, although he had no idea of new software at the time and made the excuse to possibly buy himself a bit of time. About eight months later, Microsoft released the new software program, as bill gates had proclaimed, retaining the top spot in the market. Microsoft's expansion today has reached every technological realm possible. Occluded in the newest developments are

Two friends named Bill Gates and Paul Allen founded Microsoft in Albuquerque. They started out with a small company and turned into an empire that employs 100,932 people (as of December of 2013). Before there was Microsoft there was Traf-O-Data, which kept track of traffic data, which at that time was groundbreaking. Microsoft is now a multibillion-dollar company and is a household name. Microsoft has now expanded to selling many different, successful products. Some of their very popular products include Skype, Xbox, the Surface tablet and Bing. Microsoft has 1.5 billion dollar revenue. Even though Microsoft had market dominance at one...
Microsoft Corporation is the market leader in the U.S. computer software company. Microsoft was founded in 1975 by William H. Gates III and Paul Allen both had met during their studies , through their common love of programming with the PDP -10 computer from Digital Equipment Corporation. In 1975 they collaborated on the first version of the programming language BASIC for the MITS Altair computer, the first personal computer . This led to the creation of Microsoft in Albuquerque, New Mexico , in the same year. In 1979, Gates and Allen moved the company to Redmond , Washington. Allen resigned in 1983 for health reasons , but later rejoined the Board. The company went from 15 employees and $ 500,000 of revenue in 1978 to have more than 22,000 employees and 11.4 billion dollars in revenue in 1997.
The William H. Gates foundation was started in 1994 and was operated by Bill’s dad. Paul came back to Microsoft and Bill and Paul donated to their old school, Lakeside private school. They created a auditorium in the school named after their old friend, Kent Evans. In 1995, Microsoft started adding the internet to their future plans. They created a web browser called Internet Explorer and launched a network for the internet called MSN. Along with this, Windows 95 was also released that same year.
Gates’ passion for technology began at the age of 8, when he built his first computer program. This program allowed the player to compete in a game of tic tac toe against the system. From then on, Bill spent every ounce of his free time in the computer room. His father even said “Bill would sneak away in the middle of the night with Paul Allen, Bill’s best friend, to go to the computer room”. He programmed computers at age 13 which would eventually lead to founding the world’s largest software company. A...
In order to lead and be successful you have to be willing to embrace change. Myatt (2012) explained that “leadership demands fluidity, which requires the willingness to recognize the need for change, and finally, the ability to lead change”. Change needs to be recognized in every organization. Organizations must undergo change to subsist. Each area of an organization needs to be assessed to lead change properly. Lastly, the change process must be managed. It is demanding that change agents are arranged for success and not failure by providing them with the proper tools, talent, resources, responsibility and authority necessary for the job (Myatt, 2012).
"Success is a lousy teacher. It seduces smart people into thinking they can't lose." -Bill Gates (Bill 1). Microsoft Windows, as of October 2013, is used by approximately 85 percent of all laptops and desktops worldwide (StatCounter 1). The Windows operating system is the pride and joy of the programmer, inventor, and co-founder of Microsoft, William Henry Gates III. His impact on the world has been astronomical resulting in many advancements in science and technology that just wouldn’t have been possible without him. In order to fully understand his significance and influence in the world, one must be knowledgeable of his background, the critics view of his most famous achievement, and must have a discussion about his impact and importance in the modern world.
Microsoft’s mission of placing a “PC running Microsoft software on every desk and in every home” drove their overall strategy early on. Depending on the business segment within Microsoft, one would see in place very different business models as the strategy for each line of business could vary. In the operating system (OS) segment, Microsoft initially brought in an existing product and modified this (MS-DOS) to work with the Intel microprocessor, which were the “brains” of the IBM PC. Microsoft partnered with IBM to provide the operating system for the IBM PC. In addition to developing Windows, Microsoft during this period was working to write applications for the Apple OS.
In his later school years, Gates met Paul Allen, and the two co-founded what would eventually become Microsoft. The dynamic duo’s first commercially-based job was to write up a program to manage payroll services. This first job worked out so well, that Gates and Allen later formed a pint-sized company called “Traf-O-Data” which studied traffic patterns for small towns around Seattle. Microsoft was slowly taking it’s first baby steps into the technology business.
Bill Gates, as we all know, developed Microsoft and made billions of dollars…$76 billion-plus, to be exact! But it had nothing at all to do with a limitless pill. While Gates may have talked about finding an easier way to do things, building Microsoft was of course anything but easy. However, Gates did start off focusing on the smaller things. For example, by the age of 13 he already knew how to use a teletype block computer in the private prep school he attended. When he was 17 he had already mastered source code and began a business along with a friend.
There is no such thing as a “born leader”. Human, animals, trees, and all of other living things survive and develop by earning and acquiring information needed. Nothing could receive the current position or status from an automatic mode.
Microsoft is the leading and the largest Software Company in the world. Found by William Gates and Paul Allen in 1975 Microsoft has grown and become a multibillion company in only ten years. It all started with a great vision – “a computer on every desk and every home” - that seemed almost impossible at the time. Now Microsoft has over 44,000 employees in 60 countries, net income of $3.45 billion and revenue of 11.36 billion. Company dramatic growth and success was driven by development and marketing of operational systems and personal productivity applications software.
A leader is someone that you can look up to, someone who has a conglomerate of attributes that motivate people to follow them. There are many reasons why you can find someone amusing, intriguing or interesting but the conglomerate of actions performed by them is what makes them stand over others. A global leader is someone who has transcends the geographical limits with their contributions not only to their field but to humanity as well. In this essay I will briefly discussed the attributes of the global leader I selected, his visions and his contributions to mankind.
All in all Mr. Gates is one of many great Americans, who achieved a lot for our world. If Gates continues to support school and charity, and Microsoft develops further equipment, the world will be a saver and richer world. Who knows, maybe we will live in space in the next 100 years thanks to Microsoft and their computer technology. If Gates had not founded Microsoft or did not do what he did, the world would still teach with chalk and would have to read books to get information. As Gates once said, when he was asked, what his greatest fear for the future would be "... there'll be some really bad things that'll happen in the next 50 or 100 years, but hopefully none of them on the scale of, say, a million people that you didn't expect to die from a pandemic, or nuclear or bioterrorism ( News) ."
