Man’s Best friend
When I was ten years old, I was curious about all categories of animals. Although a majority of children own pets as companions, I could not convince my parents into permitting me to have one. Until one day, my mother arrived home from an exhaustingly long day at work, with an immense smile on her face acting very suspicious. Before I could ask, “Mom what are you up to?” I focused my vision down into her arms. I was in comprehensive wide-ranging astonishment! I felt so extremely blissful, tears started to dominate my expression. In my mother’s arms, she held the most charming, brindle, dachshund puppy staring up at me with her vast chocolate eyes. Snickers loved to hunt lizards, swim in the canal and offer heaps of kisses. She remained loyal to my sisters and I; therefore, I will never forget the day she vanished. Losing track of Snickers wasn’t an infrequent episode. She was clever and discovered how to squeeze herself out of the tiny holes along the enclosure in our backyard. She would race down the boulevard as reckless as she could, and our neighbors would always tell us, “Your dog got out again.” During her escape, the pooch would be so difficult to catch because she ignored anyone except my father. As she dodged our petite hands from catching her, Snickers believed it to be a game; consequently, it would cause her to

My father invited the woman in, I thanked her about one hundred times for rescuing my best friend. As I reflect on the situation, I believe we all learned a valuable lesson that day, never take for granted the belongings you have in life because you never know when you might lose them. Also, we learned never to walk Snickers without a leash. Snickers meant the world to me. She was my happiness when I was sad, my comfort when I felt alone, and my best friend when no one else was there for me. Snickers passed away a few years ago, but I will never forget my furry four legged
All four writers, Aristotle, Cicero, Montaigne, and Emerson discuss the importance of male friendship, and all four characters make statements about the superiority of friendship above other associations. However, the tone, the interpretation of friendship, and manner of rhetoric is influenced by the translation of the individual writer’s culture.
Once upon a time, there was a little bunny named Harriet, and she loved nothing more than playing with her best friend Alice. Alice lived across the field from Harriet’s burrow. They spent hours nibbling on clover and wiggling their whiskers. Most of all, they loved playing with Harriet’s Wii. One tragic day, the Wii broke. The next day, Harriet waited and waited for Alice to come over to play. Alice did not come that day, nor the next. Alice never came over to play again. Harriet did not know that Alice had found a new friend, with a Wii that worked. When Harriet found out about Alice’s betrayal of their friendship, she wondered: what is a true friend? In an attempt to ease her pain, Harriet got a big bowl of ice cream, and lost herself in reading the Nicomachean Ethics of Aristotle. There, she discovered that there were actually three different forms of friendship: pleasure, utility and perfection.
Strong essay- Well chosen quotes with Is friendship really necessary in life ? In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck the main characters George and Lennie are best friends who travel through California looking for a stable job and a stable place to live during the time of the Great Depression. Throughout the book both George and Lennie’s friendship is questioned because of Lennie’s mental disability and during this time everybody works for himself to save money and settle down. Another reason they are questioned is because everyone during this time is very cranky and looks out for themselves. Everyone needs a good friend in life no matter what circumstances.
In an American society, many people settle in the United States of America in hopes of seeking the American Dream, which is the freedom of life, equality, and the aspiration to accomplish individual goals in life. Any person that has lived through the great depression has had their life drastically changed by many hard obstacles that had to be fought in order to sustain an excellent life. Some of the crucial themes of the novel Of Mice and Men is that having your own dream attains ambition, companionship, and assurance, allowing one to succeed in life with meaning and importance. Three major examples show this idea. John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men divulges the longing for friendship, the desperation for the American Dream, and the cruelty of humanity through the creation of his two main characters, George and Lennie.
Written by Richard Wright, The Man Who Was Almost a Man takes places in the 1960s. The text shows the economic differences between two social classes. The story revolves around Dave Saunders, a seventeen-year-old teenager, who wants the world, or in this case, the base, to recognize his manhood. Under Marxist lens of interpretation, the readers can see the consequences of commodity fetishism, and the effects of alienation.
The other day I was sitting with a friend of mine in a class, all of a sudden she turns to me saying, "You got to see this." Expecting to be handed a phone to read some text or watch a video to my surprise she hands me a copy of National Geographic turned to an article about the domestication of foxes. "Borrow it from me, I know you're into animal stuff, you got to read it." Only my friends would do this, but this article is a really great starting point to discussing pets. I think it is important to explain how I happened upon the article, because I doubt I would have gotten passed an article about wild foxes, or wild animals for that matter. The fact that they were able to breed foxes specifically to be pets for humans was the reason of interest, as her later comment that, "I totally want one, they are so adorable" shows . Pets are our strongest connection to the natural world; they are the part of nature we interact with on a day-to-day basis. Pet stores, like Petco which I visited, do a lot to mediate and influence manner in which relationships between people and their pets' form. Pets have a distinct role in people's lives as children, best friends, and members of the family which not only impact how the pet is treat it also impacts how other animals are seen and ranked in their importance towards humans.
What comes to mind when one thinks of the word ‘puppy’? It is probable describe a puppy as a lovable, adorable, and cuddly companion. However, one might also identify the animal as a menace and a liability or even as a delicious source of food. Why does this single word hold so many meanings? One’s past experiences and biases influences these conflicting views and attitudes. For instance, an individual’s fond view of puppies may exist because they were raised with puppies and consequently grew affectionate toward the animals. On the contrary, if another individual has not bonded with puppies as pets, then they will share the latter point of view. In the short story “Puppy” by George Saunders, the multiple characters view single events and objects with contrasting perceptions. Therefore, instead of painting a precise picture of the characters and the plot, the story expresses several views regarding the morals of the characters, the motivations of their actions, and the meaning of the events that take place. In “Puppy”, George Saunders explores the theory that perception is not an elementary, universal definition of an object or idea, but a complex interpretation that is influenced by one’s unique and varying past experiences and opinions. The complexity of perception is evident in one the story’s narrator’s, Marie’s, vantage point.
Companionship is highly valued in society and most people long for the perfect balance in a companion. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, the theme of companionship is prevalent. Many of the characters long for companionship, and look up to the bond between George and Lennie. Migrant workers typically don’t travel together, but George and Lennie are an exception to this. When George and Lennie come to work on the ranch together, the other characters begin to see the values of friendship. When two people have a strong friendship, they begin to depend on each other. The theme of companionship in Of Mice And Men emphasizes dependence.
She must be at Lady’s house!”. Now, Lady is the neighbor dog and she lives about two blocks down the street... “And how do you think on getting there?” I think to myself. “Just walk! I can’t drive, so that’s the only way to get there!” I notice that talking to myself is wasting precious daylight. Now I’m walking down the ditch, scouring holes, tuffs of grass, and anything that resembles and dog. Finally, I reach the house where Shiloh is supposed to be at. To my surprise, I spot a little white tipped tail running around a tarp shed in the driveway. “Boy! Shiloh is a speedy little thing!” I say in my subconscious. I take off at full speed, trying to be as agile as possible, dodging mess and clutter around the yard. As I round the corner of the tarp shed, I turn behind me to see a ginormous German Shepherd chasing me like a fox chases a rabbit. With the little energy I have left, I push my little legs to the max in an attempt to escape this beast of a k-9. I fall just short of freedom. All I can do is lay there, hoping the ferocious dog is just coming over to my side to lick my cheek in a kind manner.I see something that is branded into my brain for the rest of my life; a big, furry, foaming at the mouth, vicious animal is jumping with its mouth wide open, right for my foot. I see its razor sharp fangs plunge into my foot, through my sock and leather shoe. “So this is how it ends!” I think as the dog tries to rip my foot off. As I scream bloody hell, my sight is in slow motion, back and forth, back and forth goes my limp leg in Lady’s mouth. The rest goes
The day Mom got Sugar was somewhat frightening for me. Obviously, I wanted nothing to do with the dog, I never planned to be in the same room as the dog, much less, take care of the dog. After all, Mom was supposed to take care of the dog. Slowly, I fell in love with her. She looked stern and loving. Her warm, brown eyes and pearly white smile only helped me fall in love with her. Not long after that I started to enjoy her company. Sugar was a loyal dog, she wanted to please everyone. When we went for a walk Sugar would come with us. We kept her on a leash, yet she never strayed from us.
As a kid, I fell in love with the idea of getting a puppy for Christmas. Wrapped in a small box with a bow on top sitting under the tree just like the movies and tv shows I had seen. I can remember making a Christmas list of all the things I wanted that year, and every year the same thing that I wanted had said “puppy” with it underlined so that my mother knew which was my favorite on the list. Every year no surprise, I didn’t find a dog. I never understood why I never received one. When the kids at school talked about the few dogs they had at home made me so jealous, but I hoped that one day it would be me to have my own best friend at home.

“A dog is a man’s best friend” goes much deeper than the phrase might initially imply. Recently many medical journals have begun to identify with the many and varied benefits of pet ownership. Men have always relied upon animals for work, transportation, and survival. As times have changed, man has begun to appreciate a different bond with animals. Gone are the days of animals running free outside around the homestead, for now animals are allowed inside and are considered by many to be an integral part of our daily lives! Medical studies have found that animals have a much greater intelligence level than originally thought. Through proper training and experience, animals are not only household pets, but also are becoming an accepted form of medical treatment.
"What's wrong with Charlie?" Claire asked as she held out her tiny hands with a motionless gold fish in her palm. "I was just playing with Charlie yesterday, but today he won't play." Claire's parents failed to realize that when their child begged them to buy her a pet, that she knew nothing of how to take care of a simple gold fish. She didn't understand that fish are not pets to be held or caressed like you would a kitten. This situation occurs more often than most people think. Whether it is a result of an impulsive purchase, emotion, or even a stray animal that you came across, many people do not take into consideration what owning a pet may entail. There is a huge variety of species available, from tarantulas to genetically altered Munchkin cats, with many ways to obtain them. Although not everyone is able to handle a giant spider or endure changing kitty litter, you have to realize you are making a commitment to being responsible for another living being. Even with the wide ranging selection, it is crucial to know how to choose a pet that suits you.
As a child it was obvious how much I loved animals, not just house hold pets like fish, dogs, and cat but even outdoor animals the average toddler would probably not be so fond of. When I was younger I woul...
