Emerson and Thoreau are both very good writers that made people lot to think about the subject matters especially corrupted government and its treatment during those age. There writings were very creative and made people wonder which gave them the ideas to think and write about what they have done and brought it to people’s attention. There are clearly far more comparisons than there are contrasts. Both Emerson and Thoreau were part of the same philosophical movement, the Transcendentalists, and were both key authors who did much to the general public to form and maintain the Transcendentalist movement. Both of them had shining self-confidence in the human spirit, and theme of course was helping man to reconnect with nature and to gain a simpler understanding of life. Later, Emerson wrote about nature to make readers understand and make changes to tradition as government were in need of changes in particular. As stated by Shannon Vs Nature, (2011), “Emerson wants his readers to know that it is okay to have your own beliefs and to make changes to tradition”. He also wants his readers to take in nature, and appreciate it. On other hand Thoreau is talking totally different from Emerson and he makes people understand about the corrupted government and he want to colonize the government. According to felipOUTTAcompton, (2011), “Thoreau calls our government weak, and ineffectual - "It is a sort of wooden gun to the people themselves." He doesn't want our government to completely disappear, he just believes that the government that governs less, governs best. However, the following are the tone of two writers during those ages. Emerson, Nature is the source bringing people together to understand the system of government, satirizing the bad author and nature is existence which lands a meaning and significance to natural phenomena and talking against the government is Thoreau’s concern.
