There are many advantages to attending a small college when you choose to further your academic journey: cheaper tuition, lower teacher-student ratio, as well as, guaranteed placement into a four year college upon completion. However, the gross discrimination between resources made available to full time students as opposed to those made available to part time, working, nontraditional students, overshadows the benefits, and this is the reason students consider spending their educational dollars at other institutions. Such resources as admissions, registration, financial aid, student advising and many other resources are not as readily available for students who work full time and go to school in the evenings part time to further their education.
Extended student service hours in admissions, financial aid, registration, tutoring and other resources such as book stores and the library should be made available at State College for nontraditional students. While these services are very helpful to traditional students, it is very difficult for students who work full time to be able to utilize them. If, for instance, a student works from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. everyday, and he or she attends class nightly beginning at 6 or 6:30 p.m., when is the student able to take advantage of these services? Most are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Although those hours are great for State College employees, they are not beneficial for part time or nontraditional students such as I.
There are two solutions to this problem. Hire a part time employee to work extended weekly hours and push the closing time to 10:00 p.m., or hire a part time employee to work Saturday’s; even if it i...

...ould also be an online chat for nontraditional students to communicate with State College students using the same program, offering extra credit to those who work the chat room and assist those students who are not available to be at school during office hours. Again, this could alleviate overcrowding in the student center, while offering these students the same services as traditional students.
There are so many possible options to making State College a “student friendly” campus for traditional students and students such as myself and many of my fellow classmates who are employed full time. This school can be an even better educational institution than the great school that it has become today with the help of both State staff and students. Of course, there will be obstacles and possible objections to overcome in the process, but it’s definitely conceivable.
As stressful as school is for college students, most agree that they should be allowed to have pets in their dorm rooms. When the argument comes up that pets should be allowed in the dorm room, that does not mean that students only want to be able to have a pet fish. Most colleges now only allow aquatic animals such as fish and turtles and they even have to be in a certain size aquarium tank. Many would agree that when they come back from a very stressful, hard working day at school they would
the importance of an athletic trainer. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary and benefits offered and the duties for a particular career when making this decision. There are athletic trainers all over the United States. You can find them most of the time on the side of a field or a court aiding in sports ranging from soccer to basketball to football. Their hours fluctuate a lot including working on the weekends or working
at Austin vs. North Lake College Transferring from a community college has opened many doors throughout my academic career. North Lake College is part of the Dallas County Community College District, located in Irving, Texas; a more conservative environment compared to Austin. After living such a drastic change in such little time I’ve been able to identify differences that are prominent in both The University of Texas at Austin (UT) and my previous school North Lake College (NLC). Through my involvement
incoming freshman to Iowa State University is to spend at least there first two semesters in one of the on campus dorms. Other options available to these students are to find off campus housing in an apartment or a fraternity or sorority, to live at home and commute, or to live for one semester in the dorms and one semester off campus. By examining the alternative options to on campus residence, it is clear that none of these other living options will give incoming students the same variety of benefits
Every year, newly graduated young adults struggle with the idea of what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Many chose to go to college, some chose to go straight to work, and some will join the military. For those who join the military, they have several diverse reasons on why they chose to join, with attaining the benefits for their college education and on the job training being among the top two reasons (Wang 398). With this in mind, it is important for all service members to be aware
your life, knowing you’re doing something good and beneficial. Even students in school are taking the initiative on going green in their community. Students are coming up with innovative ideas to have sustainability in college, my thoughts on the manner, and building an environmental friendly residence hall called deep green that has going green features. These are the

In the United States, more than one in three women live in poverty or on the brink of it (Patron, 2014). The current federal poverty level starts at $16,020 for a family of two, $20,160 for a family of 3, and so on at increments of slightly more than $4,000 for each additional family member (Buteau, 2007). There are 106 million people in the United States that have incomes below 200 percent of the federal poverty level, or are low-income. About 42 million of these low-income individuals are women
first year student. To help student overcome the challenge transition to college life, Sacramento state offer a program that would help them adjust to the new start. This program launched during 2002-2003 and the program has grown from group of 5 to 39 peer mentor to serve and help first year students. Every student who has enrolled in first year seminar classes will have an assigned peer mentor to help them with academic advising and provide one on one meeting with students to get them

Most studies and reports on class size by the U.S. Department of Education were conducted from the mid-1980 and late-1990. These studies are not relevant to technology available to campuses today, and do not reflect the average student’s classroom. With the introduction of certain technology, large class sizes are becoming more student-friendly and based less on
