I had just graduated from high school and unlike most of my friends, I had no intentions of going to college. I was content making minimum wage working as a teller at a local bank. Like many young adults, I was in a relationship and thought that I had found my true love. From my perspective, my future was very clear. I would continue to work at the bank, marry my high school sweetheart, have two or three kids, and live the American dream like everyone else in Frankfort was doing. A year after I had graduated, my life and my perspective began to change. ...ee. Joining the Navy gave me the opportunity to travel the world. I’ve been fortunate to travel to places many only dream about. I have been very successful as a cryptologist, promoting to the highest enlisted rank. The Navy has also provided me with advanced training that will make me marketable in the civilian sector when I choose to depart the service. And while I do miss Frankfort from time to time, the Navy has given me the opportunity to get out of my hometown. I realize that the reasons I have chosen to continue my service to my country are far different than the reasons I initially chose to join. I love being a part of something greater and having a sense of purpose. Every day I feel like I am making a difference and somehow giving back my country. I am proud of the work that I have done in the Navy and will continue to serve my country with pride.
