Macbeth’s uncontrollable desire for the throne makes him the perfect example of a tragic hero. Macbeth was first recognized as a great general and an asset to the kingdom. He had the respect of the people and even the king, whom he first seems to have much respect and care for. After winning one of the biggest battles Macbeth and his friend Banquo encounter three witches, drastically changing the plot of the story. The prophesy from the three witches awaken Macbeth’s desire for the throne, however he didn’t stand alone. Lady Macbeth represents a very important role in the play of the story, and in the changing of Macbeth’s character. Meeting the witches ' awaken Macbeth’s ambition for the throne. The witches stated, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!/ All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter! (Shakespeare, 1.2.49-50).” Here the witches ' state that Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor, and crowned King after. Short after, the first prophecy became true, taking away all his doubts of the witches prophecies. At this point Macbeth wants to see himself as king, and believes that it’s his faith to do so. Lady Macbeth played a significant part in Macbeth’s character, making her the person who most influenced Macbeth in his actions. According to scholar Thomas, “Lady Macbeth is one of William Shakespeare’s most well-known and intimating female characters. As she is Macbeth’s wife, her role is significant in his rise and fall from royalty. She is Macbeth’s other half. During Shakespearean times, women were seen as weak, irrelevant beings that were there to give birth and look pretty. They were not thought to be as knowledgeable or equal to men.
