The effects of this disease can be long-term. Lyme disease is not deadly if you treat correctly, but it does affect you in many different ways.
Lyme disease is caused by a bacteria called borrelia burgdorferi. We get infected with this disease when we are bitten by a black legged tick or a deer tick. This bacteria is found in mice and deer. When a tick bites you, the bacteria passes through your bloodstream. There are many types of ticks, for example, deer tick, brown dog tick, American dog tick, lone star tick, gulf coast tick, and western black-legged ticks. Deer ticks and western black-legged ticks are the only types of ticks that carry the Lyme disease bacteria. Deer ticks spread Lyme disease in the north eastern part of the U.S. Black-legged ticks spread Lyme in the Pacific coast. Lyme disease is a bacterial illness that is spread by tick bites.
The symptoms of Lyme disease appear in different parts of the body. You can get headaches all the time. You can also get a high fever up to 103 degrees. When a tick bites someone, they get a skin rash called erythema migrans., which looks like a solid red circle. Their lymph glands will also start to swell. If the bite is near the neck, it will start to get stiff and it will also start to hurt. Another symptom will be that they will get a sore throat. Wherever they got bit will be very numb. The person’s joints and muscles will also start to ache. Some people with Lyme disease have a hard time thinking or keeping track of their thoughts. When you have Lyme disease, you can have symptoms that last for a long time or symptoms that last for a short amount time, but both can affect you a lot.
