Love is the basis of our existence. It affects our every moment, dreams, and hope for the future. Love has caused wars, ended lives, toppled governments and has been expounded on by poets, musicians, philosophers, and literates throughout the centuries. Research from Syracuse University shows that it takes about a fifth of a second to fall in love and it affects almost every part of our body. Our brain releases dopamine, a natural chemical that gives us energy and optimism. Love is similar to a drug and can become an addiction because it affects our brain much like other drugs by triggering the dopamine reward part of our brain. Love even affects a persons’ heart when a person is in love their blood pressure will lower and has been found to prevent heart disease. People in love have a feeling of optimism, a sense of well-being, happiness and can lower stress levels. Love has a huge impact on our lives positive in a healthy relationship and negative in a toxic relationship (Mies). Research has proven to the media and government agencies that love is a strong motivator of behavior. Since love motivates people the media, governments, and others have learned to influence a person’s behavior by influencing matters of the heart. People have the general opinion that one needs a significant other to be happy, fulfilled and complete. Before television, books and stories where the first influences we had. Some our current top authors are romance novelist such as; Johanna Lindsey, Nora Roberts, and Nicholas Sparks to name a few (Barnes and Nobles). Romance novelists tend to tell stories of damsels in distress and white knights rushing to the rescue.
