Insanity weaves itself through the zombie apocalypse as a man loses himself in a vain attempt to save the woman he loves.
Act I
A party rages in typical, parents are out of town, high school fashion. FRANK stands beer in hand, alone up against a wall, staring across the party at KELLY, who has her arm around a guy chugging a canned beer. Finishing the beer and headbutting the can repeatedly he, “WHOO”s as the party cheers. JOEL comes over and attempts to rescue Frank asking him to forget her for a night and just enjoy the party. Frank laments the choice in men Kelly makes and wishes he could just be with her for a night. Through it all a news telecast talks about a new disease that is: taking lives, reanimating the dead, and spreading the undead. A news report shows cities overrun and warns people to stay indoors as zombies overrun the news telecast.
Dusk on sixth street in Erie PA it is littered with abandoned cars and dead bodies. Frank and Joel are walking down the street cautiously looking through the cars and around for somewhere that could offer shelter.They come across a small local Pharmacy that seems secure when a female zombie grabs and bits Joel. As they fight back Frank realizes, the zombie is Kelly. The Pharmacy is occupied by the owners LEE and KARA who do not want want to allow them in, yet after much pleading do allow them in as a hoard of zombies begin to approach the boys. Frank throws his jacket over Kelly’s head and brings her in.
The boys explain to Lee and Kara that Kelly is Frank’s sister and that she was bit. Lee argues and wants them out; however, his wife wants to help the boys and he eventually agrees. They tie Kelly up in the back room. (PLOT POINT 1) As they get to know each other Frank tells...

Joel and Frank’s argument spills out into the main store and Lee is made aware of what Frank has done. Lee attacks Frank and they roll around until Frank gets the gun out and shoots Lee. Frank laughs and kicks Lee as he lays dying, and he sets the gun down yells and Joel about needing help. During the fight Kelly has escaped and the moment Frank opens the door to the back room she is on him biting his neck. This does not faze Frank who laughs calling her is love and how they can now be together for ever. Joel, turning into a zombie, sees the totality of the sickness that grips Frank and crawls over to the gun. The barrel aims at the head of Kelly then at Frank then back and forth between the two, as he cries, and the darkness of un-death takes him, the trigger is pulled.
Joel confusedly looks around and behind him he sees a scared Sarah shaking him awake, Tommy just outside of the truck, and directly in front of him, he sees a family being attacked by somebody infected, which jolts him awake and back into reality. With the car now being sideways after the crash, in order to get out, Joel uses all his strength and starts to kick the windshield in front of him until it shatters. Joel carefully crawls out then reaches in for Sarah, avoiding the shards of glass on the ground and still bordering the windshield. Just as she starts to climb out and stand up, she falls over and complains that her leg hurts. A noticeably worried Joel grabs his revolver from his jean pocket then hands it over to Tommy and demands he protect them. Joel picks Sarah up and with her in his arms, they begin running for safety. As Joel sprints through the streets with Sarah in his arms and Tommy just a few feet in front of them, chaos erupts everywhere. In any given direction, there are either citizens or infected individuals dashing through the streets, with dozens of people being attacked along the way. In addition, there are explosions and many cars accidents with one car even driving straight into a gas station, causing it to blow up. Sarah at one point looks at the gas station then alarmingly utters, “those people are on fire,” to which Joel tells her not to look, prompting her to close her eyes and
No book has captivated the zombie apocalypse better than World War Z. Max Brooks creatively presents “a worldwide zombie pandemic from outbreak to aftermath” (Boyd, Tristan). His book encompasses many social and political themes in the world today. The book reveals true fear and shows the strength of the human race.
He begins to think how he had just killed a man and how him and his friends had tried to attempt rapping a girl. As he is walking in the lake he touches a dead body and gets freaked out even more and began to yell. Then the girl hears him and scream there they are and began to throw rocks into the lake trying to hit the narrator. He then hears the voice of Bobby who bought him relief and sorrow at the same time. He felt relief because he discovers that the Bobby is not dead and sorrow because the Bobby was alive and wanted to kill him and his friends.
There was a heavy rain outside, but other than that, the room was silent. George stared at the bunk where Lennie slept, unable to sleep. He was filled with hatred of the world that forced him to kill his own friend. As the night dragged on his hatred shifted to Curley’s wife, then Curley. “If Curley hadn’t let his tramp wife go around and cause trouble Lennie would still be here” George thought. Just then, Lennie appeared in front of him with a look of deep sadness and pain. Seeing Lennie’s pain and suffering, sent him over the edge. “That god damn Curley!” George thought, grabbing Carlson’s gun while he slept. “This is all his fault!” he thought, consumed by rage. He shuffled over to where Curley slept and pulled out the gun. George aimed the gun at Curley and pulled the trigger. An instant later he is horrified by what he has done. When Buck and Tracy got involved she realized that he had a gambling problem. She had confronted him about him losing money while gambling in front of his friends. Buck became furious and punched the door working his way around Tracy. Buck then starts yelling and saying how his mother put a gun to his head and asked Tracy never to leave him. Seeing his vulnerable side, Tracy felt sorry for him. This showed Tracy that Buck had a shattered soul and a sense of humanity.
Though fictional, this novel illustrates the fear surrounding disease, viruses, and contamination and how if uncontrollable, could lead to a global spread that could jeopardize the human race. Traveling internationally, World War Z represents a zombie epidemic that brings forth infection, which can be considered an unconscious actor during this time of confusion and destruction. Scientifically, fear is defined as a natural response found in almost all organisms that revolve around the emotions and feelings induced by perceived threats and danger. Max Brooks illustrates the societal interaction with fear, “Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells. That was my mantra. ‘Fear sells.’” (Brooks 55). The fear of a zombie virus spreading in fact just produces more fear into the mind of the individual. Through research and scientific advancements, fears and anxieties have been proven to put an individual more at risk of developing health issues. How ironic, right? Our fears and anxieties surrounding diseases and the spread of them cause our society to be more susceptible to obtain and contract more health related problems. Cassie has not had it easy since The Others attacked. She watched her mother die, her father blown into smithereens, and her brother packed up on a bus to Camp Haven. Then, Cassie finds herself alone in the woods after there was an explosion at her previous camp. In order to find her brother at Camp Haven, she has to figure out a way to get there. ...e to cope with the ominous recurring flashbacks and the heart-aching memories he suffered from every day. He may have been able to be saved if he only had an outlet to express his feelings. To that end, the significance of connection and communication between one another cannot be further stressed and hopefully this story was encouragement enough to reach out to fellow loved ones and even acquaintances in an effort to gain better relationships and advance as a society.
George R. Romero modernized the concept of the “zombie” in the film “Night of the Living Dead”, which revitalized the genre and reintroduced it to mainstream audiences. In Romero’s films, zombies are not the main antagonist, and instead, the villains are usually other human beings, making it so that zombies are presented as a physical projection of the tensions between the characters. Upon entering the cabin, Juan asked him for the money. He replied quickly that first he needs to see his daughter. The children came out. There was a sudden movement by Glenn which attracted the attention on him long enough for Marianne’s father to pull out the pistol. He pistol whipped Juan and held the gun towards Rita. Rita suddenly started screaming in Spanish asking where Buck was. They told her he was dead and ordered her to put her hands above her head. He handed the gun to Glenn motioning him to stay here and watch the two as he went for the cops and took the others.
While becoming the afternoon snack of a gigantic shark is not a pleasant thought, and neither is being murdered by a psychopath in horrific fashion, the key to understanding the hold that zombies have on our collective imagination is that not only is it easy to see ourselves in them, it is frightening to see how easy it was for another person to become a zombie – to lose herself or himself and everything that made them unique – and succumb to and fade into the zombie horde. Nearly everyone searches for love during at least some part of their life, but what happens when that love destroys them? The Great Gatsby is written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, an author who has had his own complications with love. The Great Gatsby is a novel about a man who is desperately pleading to get the woman of his dreams to notice him; consequently, spending thousands of dollars throwing parties so this girl – who is already married – may wander in and he can win her over. When Nick Carraway comes into his life he starts to show just how obsessed he is with obtaining his idol, Daisy. The man, Jay Gatsby, uses Nick to get to Daisy, but that proves to be a fatal mistake after they run over a woman and the woman’s husband – now infuriated and delusional – shoots Gatsby for vengeance. Destructive love is the driving force that defeats all of these characters in The Great Gatsby.
As Edgar Allan Poe once stated, “All suffering originates from craving, from attachment, from desire (Masters).” Today, we romanticize love. We create movies, books, novels, music, and everything in between off the concept that love is romantic. Although in ancient times, this was not the case. Love was seen in a completely different spectrum than marriage. Marriage and love are inseparable in the modern world. The real question is has love always been around or was in an invention of the modern world? Centuries have passed and the answer to this question is still a mystery.
