According to the research paper “Seven Paths of the Hero in Lord of the Rings: The Path of Love”, Robin Robertson express that Sam is one of the most understanding person and he chooses to travel the most sentimental path. The approach of his simple devotion and love for Frodo makes him the person who never hesitates to complete his task in the novel. Throughout the novel, Sam has a strong bond with Frodo; however, during the time of the battle of Shelob, Frodo was in a huge trouble that is when Frodo was in need of Sam’s friendship and support the most, but he was not there to support him during that time. Later, when Sam came to rescue Frodo from Shelob’s trap, Frodo was enfolded in a cocoon of Shelob’s net where she was dragging his body to serve him as a future meal. In A Game of Thrones, from the introduction of the novel, the audience is able to feel or start getting the notion that there is going to be darkness arriving later in the few chapters. In the novel, the first few chapters started calm and peaceful, especially the first chapter where the Stark family was talking and relaxed where they all were together at one place, happy with no tension of the war. Through his burden of carrying the ring, Frodo is subject to many new perspectives that make him realize the importance of the group. Without the help of the others, especially Sam, Frodo would have not been able to accomplish the great task he was given. At first Frodo does not want Sam to come along as he feels it’s too dangerous to subject his friend to. This illustrates his perspective in the beginning of the story of being selfish and thinking that his journey can be taken alone, “It would be the death of you to come with me, Sam," said Frodo, "and I could not have borne that.""Not as certain as being left behind," said Sam."But I am going to Mordor.""I know that well enough, Mr. Frodo. Acknowledged as the protagonist of the epic, Frodo was gifted with a temper well fitting to fight evil, and Sauron. Frodo was brave, selfless, wise, observant, polite and selfless and those were the traits that helped him fight against Sauron. "A Ring of Power looks after itself, Frodo. It may slip off treacherously, but its keeper never abandons it" as said by Gandalf meant that even though Sauron didn't have the ring and didn't know its location he still had a complete control of it "It was not Gollum...but the Ring itself that decided things. The Ring left him". And in other words it meant that Sauron's influence was not defeated by the absence of the Ring, only abridged and spread out. The Ring will always be found, and it will at all time come back to its creator so that its sinful nature can be complete. The way Frodo fought against Sauron's will to get the One Ring was that Frodo refused to wear the Ring and use its powers even though they were meant for good and Gandalf's words encouraged him "Do not tempt me! William Shakespeare's Macbeth is an ominous tale that illustrates the danger in violating the Great Chain of Being, the hierarchy of things in God's ordered universe. The Chain ranked all of creation and human society as well. It ranked kings above nobles and nobles above the poor. When Macbeth murdered King Duncan and assumed the throne, the Chain was violated and chaos resulted. The atmosphere of the play symbolized this resulting turmoil. Specifically, light and darkness were used to exemplify the unnatural chaos and ominous tone of the work. The role of light and the role of darkness relates to the chaos resulting from the violation of the Great Chain of Being.

In Sam’s next face-to-face confrontation with a grownup, he doesn’t only think of a creative way to escape but rather decide to fight his way out. During his escape Sam had found a lighter on the floor, and as the giant grownup is coming towards him “he raised his hand and pressed it to the giant’s beard” (92). Earlier Sam would have frozen at the sight of a grownup, but now he is able to react and overcome an opponent much larger than he is. As a result of his triumph, his confidence grows even more. Sam starts to take on the persona of Sam the Giant Slayer, which inspires him to always fight back. For example, when he realizes that some seemingly friendly grownups are actually planning to eat him, he reminds himself that “he was Sam the Giant Slayer… and he was not going to give up without a fight” (260). Sam has become a fighter capable of surviving on his own. In his persona of Sam the Giant Slayer he is able to overcome all obstacles.

It displays a contrast between the warriors which associate with light and monster which associate with darkness. Moreover, it says, “That shadow of death hunted in darkness.” which is saying that Grendel only hunted at night, in darkness. When daylight comes there is nothing but warrior's blood which is also associated with light. There is another example of the contradistinction between light and darkness. Grendel kills all of the warriors in Hrothgar but “he never dared to touch king Hrothgar’s glorious throne, protected by God”. Because the throne is represented light which Grendel hatred and also scared. This is something he never touched and felt before because he was born in darkness and was represented evil. In the story A Worn Path, Eudora Welty shows an old woman living in a time period where racial prejudice is rampant and out of control. Phoenix Jackson is a grandmother whose only motivation for living is to nurture her grandson back to health. The strength of love may make people do or say unusual and implausible things. The central idea of this story is that love can empower someone to over come many life-threatening obstacles. The idea is shown when an old woman conquers all odds against her to show her everlasting love for her grandson. Throughout the story Phoenix Jackson has to overcome many types of obstacles that hinder her in her devotion to help her grandson.
Darkness by Lord Byron is a romantic piece of literature depicting the bleak demise of our current world. The speaker begins his poem as a “dream” but “not all a dream,” (1) immediately showing doubt for the story to follow. The poet then imagines the end of the world through a series of natural, social, and supernatural events. Byron does not believe in life after death or a certain religion; therefore, the end is really the end. This idea that life is over after death, intensifies the “darkness” in the poem. During the time Byron wrote this poem, there was a theory that the sun would burn out the earth, basically destroying the world. This influenced Byron to write Darkness because the earth in reality was headed toward a dark black place of nothing. In Heart of Darkness, there is a real contrast between what is light and what is dark. These contrasts work within a reality of civilized and savage. It appears that light represents the civilized, and dark represents the uncivilized, but truly, white is evil, and the dark is innocent and virtuous.

Meanwhile Sam chases the tarantula back to the lair of Ungoliant, the Queen of Spiders, and after a tense argument about the nature of good and evil she finally reveals to Sam the cure for the spider's-venom which holds Frodo in thrall. Sam thanks Ungoliant for her mercy and wisdom and revives Frodo, and they set off into Mordor to find Gollum. "Oft help will come from the weak when the Wise are foolish," Gandalf once said, and sure enough all the spiders of Mordor are willing to help Frodo and Sam in their quest. Their course leads them to Mount Doom, where just as they arrive they find Gollum claiming the Ring for himself. The Dark Lord Sauron then becomes aware of them, and leaves the Dark Tower to come forth and destroy them; but just them Frodo and Sam rush Gollum and force him backwards into the Cracks of Doom. The Ring is destroyed, and without it Sauron is destroyed by the sunlight. Frodo and Sam leave the Mountain just in time to see the great armies of Aragorn and Faramir coming across the plains of Mordor to greet them.
