The liver is located under the rib cage on the right side and above the stomach. It is the second most important organ in your body because it performs many important functions in your body. It turns foods and drinks into necessary energy and nutrients for your body to use and it also eliminates dangerous substances from your blood. Liver cancer is defined as growth and spread of unhealthy and uncontrolled cells in the liver. It is called primary liver cancer if it starts in the liver, and metastatic liver cancer if it spreads from other organs to the liver.
One risk factor of liver cancer is Chronic infection with HBV or HCV. Next is Cirrhosis, which is a condition that causes scar tissue to form in your liver and increases your risk of developing liver cancer. Another factor is diabetes. This is a low blood sugar disorder that increases your risk of liver cancer other than people who don 't have it. Next is nonalcoholic fatty liver disease which is just when there is an excess fat buildup in your liver which increases the risk of cancer. Another is exposure to aflatoxins. Aflatoxins are poisons produced by molds that grow on crops that are stored poorly. Crops such as corn and peanuts can become contaminated with aflatoxins, which are very common food consumed in the United States. Next is excessive alcohol consumption which is when you consume a more than normal amount of alcohol daily over many years which can lead to irreversible liver damage. Finally, Obesity is a very common cause of liver cancer. This is when you have a very unhealthy amount of fat on your body which affects your liver greatly causing you to obtain the cancer.
