Throughout this Survey of Literary humor class I have learned a great amount concerning different types of comedy. Some types are satire, parody, stand-up, and African-American (race related) comedy. The most preeminent comedians use their personal pain and struggles to generate laughter from an audience. Eugene Bertin stated, “There is a purifying power in laughter. It is truth in palatable form. It is instant vacation. Seeing the comical side of many situations makes life a greater deal easier. It’s like riding through life on sensitive springs that ease every jolt.” Comedy is intended to take you to your “happy place”, and give you the utmost joy. All of your worries should fade when you are watching a comedy show/movie, or when you are attending a stand-up show; laughing makes life easy.
Parody is simply imitation; it is usually exaggerated and ridiculous. Some examples include the movie “Vampires Suck” which made fun of “Twilight”. Another movie that pokes fun at horror movies is “Scary Movie” which is followed by 4 sequels because their parody was such a hit. Parody is also present in music, and also literature. Dave Chappelle did many parodies on his show as well as stand up comedy. Like parody, satire is also meant to be exaggerated and humorous, though satire has a greater purpose. Satire is meant to address current issues by showing foolishness and/or stupidity within the issues or government. For someone to properly use satire they must know a great deal about the topic. Molly Ivins stated, “Satire is traditionally the weapon of the powerless against the powerful.”
Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, Steve Martin, and Lisa Lampanelli are just a few of the iconic comedians that partake in stand-up comedy. Stand-up comedians are...

...I have learned a plethora about comedy thanks to you. You made our class interesting, fun, and informative. Satire and parody will continue to be portrayed in Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons, and The Colbert Report, just to name a few. These shows continue to bring laughter to viewers while also bringing light to present day controversies. Stand-up comedy is a work of art; comedians are able to make people laugh at themselves, their own race, gender, and sexual identity. Bill Cosby said, “Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.” Laughter helps us deal with our everyday struggles in life. Laughter keeps us going and makes us look at the bright side of life. The trick to comedy is being honest is funny…and reality is better than fiction.

Witty Humor Essay examples

- I am not funny. If you were to ask my friends, they would inform you that I am only funny when I am not trying to be, as in the times when I trip and fall (which happens more often than I would like) or perform some other unintentional folly. If you were to ask someone else who doesn’t know me well, I am certain that “awkward” or “quiet” would be the words chosen to describe me far more often than “hilarious”.
