Recommended: history of makeup

Lipstick is a “crayon like oil-based cosmetic used in coloring the lips, usually in a tubular container” (dictionary.com). However, lipstick to me is a beauty product that brought me out of my shell. Most people do not understand how a beauty product could have made me who I am because I used to be a shy little girl, who would never talk to anybody but family. However, when I was finally allowed to wear lipstick, it gave me that push to open up and show myself to the world. Lipstick has become my life over the past few years and it gave me the confidence I never had. It all started in the eighth grade. My mom and I were heading to the beauty supply store to get braiding hair. We grabbed all the hair and supplies that we needed and headed towards the check-out. As my mom was placing our stuff onto the counter, I came across this beautiful set of lipstick called Ruby Kisses Matte Lip Lacquer. The colors were so radiant and unique. Matte lipstick is “a type of cosmetic application for lips which is known for its ability to last all day and its lack of shine” (“What is Matte Lipstick?”, 2017). Matte lipstick has become my staple because of how long it lasts. I get to make a statement all day instead of a couple of hours with regular lipstick. Matte lipstick is also best used to create an ombre effect in my opinion. The ombre effect is “color that is shaded or graduated in tone” (yourdictionary.com). I use the ombre effect to shade two similar or two completely different colors together. Ever since I learned this, it has boosted my confidence even more.
