Lionel Messi as a Role Model

When people ask what my favorite sport is, I quickly reply soccer. I never really gave much thought to who my favorite soccer player is until I saw Lionel Messi for the first time. I saw him play for Argentina and he showed me how great soccer really is. He has a great style of both teamwork and individual skill. The ability he has to keep control of the ball is what made me interested in soccer. Without him, who knows if I would even begin to enjoy soccer. He shows both individual skill and the importance of teamwork. He does not only score a ton of goals, but also gives many assists. Lionel Messi, in my opinion, is one of the greatest soccer players in history. Lionel Messi is most definitely one of my role models. Messi doesn’t only teach me how to improve on individual skill but also can show me the importance of not showing off. The soccer skill that this man has is unbelievable. Lionel Messi is a great role model. I remember one time when I was watching him play. He had just scored one of the coolest goals of his career. He spun the ball just out of reach of the goalkeeper's hands. With a smooth and controlled kick, the ball trickled into the net with a serene kind of spin. It seemed as if the whole thing had been in slow motion. As soon a the ball smacked up against the net, the entire net jolted back. The goalkeeper dove and grunted as he tried to reach the ball, but he just couldn’t. Lionel Messi’s shot was just too good. The whole crowd cheered so much. The best part, to me, is that after Messi scored his amazing goal, he didn't even celebrate. Messi just simply gave the ball to the referee and got prepared for kickoff. This showed me that even though he had scored an amazing goal, Lionel Messi did... ... middle of paper ... ... around player, but Messi also possesses the capability to have the most CAPS (goals). Messi has such a large capacity to take criticism as well. His coach may yell at him loudly, but unlike most players, Lionel will take what the coach is saying to him and use said critiques to make himself a better player. Despite the evidence, most players will scream at the referees telling them that they're wrong, not Lionel Messi. Messi will just simply sigh and agree with the referee, even if he disagrees with the call. You will hear stories about players that have a great amount of playing time, but overall, Messi pretty much holds the record. This man is hardly ever taken out of the game (unless he is injured) and it is mostly because the coach knows that Messi can get the job done. If I could meet one professional soccer player it would be, no doubt, Lionel Messi.
