Should there be limitations on social media networks? As the world evolves in many aspects, one of the most notable progressions known to man is the advances of technology. These advancements brought forth the emergence of various enterprises of social media networks. Beginning with the prominent intranet establishment of Myspace that offered different styles of communication and entertainment, this initiative led to the various launches of distinctive social media networks. Although these networks were created to encourage interactions, blatant observations have shown that all interactions are not deemed positively, presenting room for the many needed limitations. Although these boundaries need to be placed due to the high risk and potential danger, it could cause. Such potential danger emphasizes two of the most substantial factors that insist the formation of these barricades: insurmountable accessibility and possible deformation. Although social media networks, often demand such limitations it also serves as a gateway and as a beneficial assistance in terms of networking. Serving as the centralizing factor social media networks connect people across the world daily, vital information about the user’s location, upcoming events, and lifestyle/routine are often posted onto the user’s profile. Many social network sites have established requirements for their users to identify themselves by utilizing their mobile phone numbers. Granted that certain laws and privacy acts protect this information from being accessible, there are various forms of spyware that can decode and hack into the user’s information. Social media is everywhere and very popular all over the world. Social media is used on computers, tablets, smartphones, etc and along with the use of social media there are privacy issues that come along with it. Social media is part of everyone’s life and is hard to give up. Even though we might not think there is isn’t anything wrong with it, there is which comes down to our privacy. Our privacy is being invaded when using these popular networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. Social media is here to communicate with others and build relationships not invade our privacy.

Day in and day out people post, tweet, share, and pin countless times throughout the world. These different forms of communication were first created for an easier way for people to connect with others. Yet now, so much time is spent on these social sites that it has warped the interactive part and is causing more damage than good. Many are growing a desire and are living for the amount of “likes” they can receive on a post or how many re-tweets they can generate. Instead of going to these outlets to participate in a partial portion of their social lives, people are filling that time with the technological aspect of communication. As White said, this can become an inordinate amount of wasted time and can ultimately grow into further damaging circumstances. These different social media channels can cause emotional harm through disparaging the relationship between friends, conjuring of a narcissistic personality, and the retrogradation of ones self-esteem.
Synthesis Essay Social media has many flaws that have yet to be dealt with, such as invasion of privacy, selling of personal information and people using the information provided including post to stalk someone on the internet or to lure in naive teens. This is not to mean that it is at without it’s merits. It connects the people of our world and makes us more aware of each other's problems. New technologies make the spread of information astonishingly easy. As information is more readily available to a vast online audience, there is growing concern for the protection of people’s private information. Yet these technologies offer a number of limitations ranging from ownership of information to the ability to circumnavigate privacy systems that diminish privacy to a mere concept left to be desired, in turn altering the perception of the devices spawning the issue.
Social Media is defined by Merriam-Webster as “forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos)” (Merriam-Webster), and for many Americans is a method of social interaction that is used often on a daily basis. It has been determined that one in five people use social media at least once a day and that 19% of Americans between the age of 15 and 54 are on sites like Facebook and Twitter(). It’s no longer common place to send handwritten letters or birthday cards, now writing on a wall, sending a tweet or snapping a picture is accepted. Although social media has provided todays society with instant forms of communication and ways to connect, it also created a new standard for living and has caused problems for many groups of citizens in all walks of life and has caused society to re-think its usage. There are two views about social media, either that. It is a positive addition to society and its benefits outweigh the risks, or that social media causes more harm than good and it’s usage should be limited.

Since the launch of various Social Networking Sites (SNS) its been a huge attraction in a new way to share information with others and correspond with interests of your choice in many different forms. Although social media sites allow users to share information with friends and other sites on the internet, many people are unaware of how their privacy is being affected.
