Do you ever wonder what it was like being a teenager or experiencing life in 1980's? When acid-washed jeans and denim jackets became popular with both men and women, and MTV was first aired. When artist like Madonna and Michael Jackson ruled the charts and hip-hop was first introduced. Teenage boys looked like George Michael with an ear-ring on the left side and girls looked like either Blondie or Cyndi Lauper with the side pony tail. It was a time when President Ronald Reagan and “Reagan-nomics” ruled the United States and shows like Save By The Bell reign supreme among teenagers.
Yes the 1980’s were a very special decade in the United States, yet we are going to mainly focus on 1989 because that’s the year I was born in. Along with my birth being a special and important date to me, there were many famous as well as infamous people that accomplished a lot and were recognized or punished accordingly to their actions that year. But there were only three people in particular that caught my attention and believe to be worth talking about in this assignment. These three individual are Gunpei Yokoi, Tappan Morris Jr and Denzel Washington. All three men distinctively different yet all accomplish something important during the year 1989.
In its third generation of game consoles in the 1983, people were introduced to game systems like the Nintendo Family Entertainment System (or Nintendo Entertainment System) and the Sega SG-1000. These high-tech consoles ended the video game companies bankruptcy that was caused by a mass production of low-end games which lost an immense amount of consumers, this was named the “North American video game crash of 1983” or the “Atari Debacle”( Bellis ).

The institutions, cultural forms, and economic powers were lifted as the term “teenager” itself was created to differentiate young men and women from adults (University of Toronto 145). The clothing trends, hairstyles, dances and even the language was different from that of adults (Armstrong et al, 134). Young men and women enjoyed dressing themselves with blue jeans, leather jackets, and pony tails for women, which stood as an identity for teenagers as it differentiated them from adults (Armstrong et al,135). This idea was amazing to acknowledge because a new type of people are emerging, and this added to Canadian multiculturalism and acceptance of the different types of people. The adults response to the wild nature of teenagers was that they were left shocked at first, yet later they acknowledged this act as just a phase during one’s life, they got used to this unique behaviour as time progressed (OC University 10). With the brutality of World War 2, the youth at the time were simply left neglected (OC University 10). Many believe that teens during the 1950’s were greatly influenced by being raised during a war generation (OC University 10). The youth distinguished themselves through shocking, yet enjoyable behaviour such as dance moves and their overall mindset on life. In addition, advertisers convinced teens to purchase certain products which
Video games started as arcade machines with simple graphics and even simpler stories, soon evolving into home gaming with The Magnavox Odyssey, the world’s first home-gaming console. It invaded living rooms in 1972, selling 300,000 units. Since then there has been many consoles and games released, some have been huge commercial successes which
The 1980s was a decade of reform. A decade when technology was improving and people were reinventing themselves all over the United States. Ronald Reagan was the President at this time from January 20th 1981 until January 20th 1989. Which was actually most of the decade, and between the years Reagan made extravagant and questionable changes for the government and economy. These questionable changes even caused was between two other countries. Drugs even became a problem when crack cocaine was the drug of choice. AIDs was also a complication during this decade being the leading epidemic. The purpose of this essay will be to explain the political and social issues of the 1980s, the following are just a few examples.
Although the 1980s appeared to be a great time, it was actually mainly in a recession causing many to be jobless. The consumerism culture impacted the lives of many Americans and they were influenced by the people around them to continue to go out and buy the wants and ignore the needs in life; “there was a huge assortment of goods
So in conclusion that is my report over the events that happened in the 90’s. The whole idea of the 90’s was economic stress and wars and making sure that they did something to stop people that were in charge of the threats. But it was also about people living there dream and when somebody said that they couldn’t do something they just worked even harder to prove them wrong and prove themselves that they could do it. After all one of Michael Jordan’s most famous quotes “I can accept failure everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying”.

Video games, games operated by computer circuitry, are completely virtual. Besides from peripherals, they operate in a world of their own. Starting in a computer lab at MIT, bored students created a new type of game. In 1962, they developed Spacewar! which is the earliest known digital video game. Since there was no such thing as a video game, they had started a new revolution of modern gaming as we know it today. Then, in 1966, a man by the name of Ralph Baer designed circuitry to display and control moving dots on a TV screen; he was known as the father of video gaming. Baer also helped create the first commercial console, the Magnavox Odyssey, which led to the creation of color graphics in 1981 by IBM (6). Video games can run on many different platforms today, ranging from the PC, to arcade cabinets, consoles, home TV sets, handheld/mobile, and even server based (1). But before we explore the future, we must look into the past to see how the industry started.
The 1980s was a busy and action packed decade. Dance music records were made using only electronic instruments became increasingly popular. The 1980s fashion trends were certainly a foundation for the fashion in the 21st century. The art of the 1980s can now be seen in retrospect as a powerful synthesis of the personal and political, as well as an implicit rebuke to the hollow conformity and historical amnesia that characterized the Reagan era. There were many events that happened in the 1980s, however, sports were huge events in the 1980s. Sports in the 1980s had boycotts, relief, and rising stars.
Blue eye shadow, neon clothes, denim, scrunchies, leg warmers, and big hair are just a few things the ‘80s are known for. Many people remember the 1980s for those things, people throw dances, have spirit days at schools, and even have 80s costumes for Halloween all in honor of the 1980’s. These aren’t the only things that make up the ‘80s though. There is much more that happened during the best decade of the 20th century.
1970s was considered as the birth of video game industry, the phenomenon of gaming was growing and home gaming console Home-Pong which was a one-game-only console was invented by Atari, since then, the gaming industry has become very profitable, and more and more genre of video games were created.
There is a constant idea of the 80’s being a time of funky designs and color patterns, and nothing else could describe this decade better. Women began to power dress for their jobs and to show that they were just as powerful as the men, and dressed in a pencil skirt with a shoulder padded jacket. Most fashion was influenced by celebrities and the music of the time; during the hip-hop craze women wore baggy clothing and kept athletic figures to copy celebrities such as Salt-N-Pepa. Along with hip-hop clothing there was punk clothing, using spiked hair, dark, leather jackets, and gave an edgy look. Along with hair styles, there was the perm that curled hair and put it into and above your face more. Madonna was incredibly famous
From the explanation given above on the video games it is becoming evident that the paper focuses on conveying some aspect about video games. Yes it does. The paper details out the evolution of video games as a part of technological innovation. The 47 year old video game has got more than 70 different video game consoles till now. Let us see what were the technologies opted by the video game industries and the reason, impact behind this evolution.
Society in the 1980s saw games as distraction and a waste of time. Arcade games in 1981 were regarded as a reason for cutting classes. Children and the youth were banned from playing arcade games during school hours and past ten in the evening on weekdays, and past midnight on weekends. Laws against children playing in arcades during the banned hours were implemented in order to prevent further disturbances in their studies (Kent 152). Games to the people in the 1980s were merely forms of entertainment that brought about many video game addicts. However, in the early 1980s video game consoles and personal computers were globally popular. This was because most of the machines that had enough power to...
Television and movies were at its golden moments as majority of Tv shows and movies classics came from the 90s like the simpsons which is “The series currently holds the record for the longest-running prime-time sitcom in the US, running for 25 years since 1989, and becoming the longest-running program on FOX”(Wiki). American movie classics were born like Titanic, Forrest gump, Toys story, and The Matrix. Movies and Tv shows were amazing during this time but the “icing to the cake” of Entertainment came from videogames as gaming companies fought to get more support and purchase of their consoles and games as gaming became popular because of these games Super mario, Pokemon, Mortal Kombat, Sonic, Zelda and Tetris. Fashion of the 1990s was wild and colorful with crazy geometric shapes and If your clothes were not baggy then you were considered lame. Plenty of popular clothing brands in the 21st century made their launch to popularity because of the 90s. The group who molded 90s fashion to be greatest where the youth, the youth were the ones who started so many popular fashion trends that would make the 90s have a unique look. You were not a 90s kid if you did not have a pair or a bunch of Levi’s jeans, Levi’s was the go to jean as the popular 517 and 501 were born and everyone was cutting their Levi’s, Rolling up their Levi’s, or even
