Many individuals have experienced a life to death scenario. If I Stay, by Gayle Forman a 234 fictional novel contents the universal theme of life or death. Conducting seventeen-year-old Mia to experience this life to death involvement. Mia has several days to choose whether she wishes to continue with her life or slip away and die.
This young adult fictional novel takes place in the diverse state of Oregon. At 10:12 a.m. an ambulance takes little brother, the protagonist Mia to the nearest hospital and the antagonist being death. Death is considered to be the antagonist because it causes the death of her two unique, affectionate, parents, brother and her. It’s up to Mia to make a choice between two alternative choices life or death. The conflict that Mia deals with is man vs. herself. Mia has "everything," a family, an almost perfect boyfriend, a future to attend Juilliard, a nearly picture-perfect life, but with a difficult choice dealing with her life isn't an easy one to make. Mia struggles making her life changing choice
Its 7:09 a.m. and Mia Tall, a cello player, doesn't have school today due to the snow that flew in over the night. Mia's parents decide to go to Portland to visit family friends. On the way there, they crash with another car because of the weather condition Afterwards, Mia notices her parents’ bodies, her little brother’s, and disturbingly her body too. Throughout the whole book Mia is having an "out- of -body experience." Mia gives the readers flashbacks of her gleeful, loving life. Mia spends several days juggling two important decisions, life or death. Mia finally decides to stay, and goes on with her life.

...nd she’s not going to be alone. She has a family even if her parents and brother are gone. She also has, Adam to care and love for her. Mia’s final choice was to stay. The death of her parents and brother isn’t going to stop her from living herself. It gives Mia a reason to live.
Gayle Forman is a best seller, an award-winning author, and was a journalist for Seventeen, magazine. I enjoyed reading Gayle Forman’s, novel If I Stay; because it was haunting in a beautiful way. It was heartbreaking to hear what to happen to Mia. Gayle Forman was so descriptive that I felt as if I was “Mia” myself. It’s a difficult choice to make, but with the right thoughts, love from family, it gives you a reasons to stay. Gayle Forman really captured Mia as a realistic character. There’s a Mia inside all of us. We don’t want to continue with life, but life itself gives us reason too.
