Over the centuries, math has evolved in an astounding way. Since the beginning of time, there have been many mathematicians that has influenced and contributed to the math we know today. None compares to the work of Sir Isaac Newton. He was influential as a person, as well as in his work.
Sir Isaac Newton was born on December 25, 1642 in Wools Thorpe, Lincolnshire. Shortly after his father’s death, Newton was born premature and was not expected to survive. After his father’s death, his mother got remarried to an ignorant man. His stepfather didn’t seem to like him, so he was then sent away to live with his grandmother. At the age of eleven, his stepfather died. After the death, he decided to move back home with his mother.
At the age of 12, he began to attend the King's School in Grantham; however, his schooling did not last long. According to the work in newton (1998), it states that in 1658, after being widowed again, his mother returned to Wools Thorpe and withdrew him from school because she wanted him to become a farmer. At the age of sixteen he dropped out of school to work on his mother's farm. When he began, Newton got off to a slow start in school, but eventually got well into his work until he was the top of his class. Newton was a gifted child and he always took advantage of his skills. Midway in his course at King's School, it became apparent to him that farming was not in the cards.
At the age of 19, he entered Trinity College, Cambridge (Newton, 1998). For decades, Newton has been considered the greatest scientist who ever lived or one out of a handful of the greatest scientists. According to the work in Westfield (2010)," Newton's Principia marked the culmination of the scientific revolution, which ushered in modern science, and through its legacy the work may have done more to shape the modern world than any other ever published".

When most people hear the name Isaac Newton, they think of various laws of physics and the story of the apple falling from the tree; in addition, some may even think of him as the inventor of calculus. However, there was much more to Newton’s life which was in part molded by the happenings around the world. The seventeenth century was a time of great upheaval and change around the world. The tumultuousness of this era was due mostly to political and religious unrest which in effect had a great impact on the mathematics and science discoveries from the time Newton was born in 1646 until the early 1700’s.
Isaac Newton was a British Mathematician and Philosopher. He published his most acclaimed book Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica. He is also credited with the discovery of the essential theories of calculus alongside with Gottfried Leibniz, he also discovered the binomial theorem among many other accomplishments. He was of being one of the greatest minds in the 17th century scientific revolution.

He has published books such as Arithmetica Universalis, The Chronology of Ancient Kingdoms, Methods of Fluxions, Opticks, the Queries, and most famously, Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia MathematicaHe formulated the three laws of gravitation, discovered the generalized binomial theorem, developed infinitesimal calculus (sharing credit with Gottfried Wilhelm Von Leibniz, who developed the theory independently), and worked extensively on optics and refraction of light. It is very hard and nearly impossible to find someone that had contributed to world’s science as much as Isaac Newton did. His works set the basis for modern world physics and his main work that was published in “Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy” is considered one of the most significant books that the world has seen. Newton was without doubt one of the most influential scientists in modern times and he is one of the examples of the scientific enlightenment that occurred in Europe in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The evidence that support and served Newton has been collected by scientists and astronomers from different parts of the world. Newton’s work and contribution to the world wouldn’t be possible without the data that has been collected miles from his office in Cambridge. The crossing of ideas as part of the transporting world and the beginning of globally connected society had a major influence on the success of Newton’s Principia. Using Simon Schaffer’s article “Newton on the Beach: The Information Order of Principia Mathematica” and Roger Cotes’s “Preface to Newton’s Principia Mathematica” I will try to show how these crossings of ideas as part of a more globalized world were important aspect in the creation of this enlightened period.
Isaac Newton faced many hardships in his lifetime, yet managed to be internationally famous for his genius mathematical and physical discoveries, and remarkable inventions. Newton was extraordinary in the sense that he was able to endure complications in life and still be an enormous success. The majority of individuals would have cracked under the predicaments Newton faced. Sir Isaac Newton, quite possibly one of the most intelligent men to exist, played a key role in the development of the enlightenment. He supplied the foundations on which all sciences since him have been built. Without science and reason the enlightenment would have been unthinkable. In fact, historians quote the publishment of Newton's masterpiece Principia in 1687 as the most logical and fitting catalyst to the enlightenment. The scientific advances made by Sir Isaac Newton contributed immensely to the movement of the enlightenment; however, his primary purposes for discovery were not for scientific advancement rather all for the glorification of God, thus Newton's incredible religiousness will be seen in this paper.

Revered as one of the greatest names in the history of human thought. Isaac Newton was a philosopher, mathematician and scientist. He was perhaps the most talented greatest mathematician of his generation and look at as the most influential theorist in the history of science. His studies and finding on gravitation and optics puts him elite group of scientists the world has ever seen. Not to mention he also created calculus we all love and hate today.
When his mother came home she sent him to school seven miles away. It was too far for a ten year old to ride a horse everyday, so he lived with the town pharmacist and his children. He went to school and kept to himself. Children at school would bully Newton, and one day he fought a child to protect himself. He wanted to be better than the bullies in any way possible. Isaac would focus on his studies until he was the top student, then slack and make new gadgets and models. He continued to make gadgets until someone was beating him with high grades then he would focus on schooling again (Salas & Reynolds, 2004). His schooling in town was to prepare for entrance to Trinity College, located in Cambridge (Hatch, 1998).

Along with his invention of the infinitesimal calculus and a new theory of light and color, Isaac Newton changed the structure of physical science with his three laws of motion and the law of universal gravitation. Newton’s work was combined with assistance from Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Descartes and others. His father had died 3 months before. Newton had a difficult childhood. His mother, Hannah Ayscough Newton remarried when he was just three, and he was sent to live with his grandparents. After his stepfather’s death, the second father who died, when Isaac was 11, Newtons mother brought him back home to Woolsthorpe in Lincolnshire where he was educated at Kings School, Grantham. Newton came from a family of farmers and he was expected to continue the farming tradition , well that’s what his mother thought anyway, until an uncle recognized how smart he was. Newton's mother removed him from grammar school in Grantham where he had shown little promise in academics. Newtons report cards describe him as 'idle' and 'inattentive'. So his uncle decided that he should be prepared for the university, and he entered his uncle's old College, Trinity College, Cambridge, in June 1661. Newton had to earn his keep waiting on wealthy students because he was poor. Newton's aim at Cambridge was a law degree. At Cambridge, Isaac Barrow who held the Lucasian chair of Mathematics took Isaac under his wing and encouraged him. Newton got his undergraduate degree without accomplishing much and would have gone on to get his masters but the Great Plague broke out in London and the students were sent home. This was a truely productive time for Newton.
